Background: Travel restrictions and border controls were used extensively during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the processes for making robust evidence-based risk assessments of source countries to inform border control policies was in many cases very limited.
Methods: Between April 2020 and February 2022, all international arrivals to New Zealand were required to spend 14 days in government-managed quarantine facilities and were tested at least twice.
Bipedal locomotion requires body adaptation to maintain stability after encountering a transition to incline walking. A major part of this adaptation is reflected by adjusting walking speed. When transitioning to uphill walking, people exert more energy to counteract gravitational forces pulling them backward, while when transitioning to downhill walking people break to avoid uncontrolled acceleration.

In late 2021, high vaccine coverage enabled the country to transition away from the elimination strategy to a mitigation strategy. The former are often fitted to data in real-time and used for short-term forecasting, while the latter are more suitable for comparing longer-term scenarios under differing assumptions about control measures or other factors.
