BACKGROUND Swallowing is a complex behavior involving the musculoskeletal system and higher-order brain functions. We investigated the effects of different modalities of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the unaffected hemisphere and observed correlation between suprahyoid muscle activity and cortical activation in unilateral stroke patients when swallowing saliva, based on functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Methods: A randomized, single -blind, sham-controlled trial was used in this study. Thirty iSCI patients with lower limb dysfunction meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into a sham group and an iTBS group, with 15 cases in each group.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to severe intestinal dysfunction and decreased motility. There is an interaction between the intestine and the nervous system, intestinal intervention through microbial regulation and exercise is a potential treatment option for spinal cord injury. We investigated the effects of swimming rehabilitation training combined with fecal microbial transplantation on intestinal as well as neurological functions in rats with spinal cord injuries, and explored the potential mechanisms.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with SCI between January 2016 and December 2019 in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, were screened for NP by using the Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) questionnaire. A total of 133 patients diagnosed with SCI with NP were finally included in the study.
Background: To investigate the efficacy of percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) in the treatment of patients who were diagnosed with lumbar disc herniation (LDH) with positive nerve root sedimentation sign (NRSS).
Methods: A total of 86 patients who underwent LDH were recruited and divided into NRSS-positive group ( = 49) and NRSS-negative group ( = 37). The visual analog scale (VAS), Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA), and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were used to evaluate the low back pain and functional recovery and were compared between the two groups.
Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of a prophylactic intravenous administration of tranexamic acid (TXA) 30 minutes before skin incision on perioperative blood loss in patients treated with posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF).
Methods: A total of 63 patients who underwent PLIF were recruited and divided into a TXA group (n = 26) and a control group (n = 37). Intraoperative blood loss, postoperative blood loss, duration of tube drainage, hospitalization time, blood transfusion rate, and incidence of complications were compared between the 2 groups.
