Background: A 12-month cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) demonstrated the effectiveness of an application-based education program in reducing the salt intake and systolic blood pressure (SBP) of schoolchildren's adult family members. This study aimed to assess whether the effect at 12 months persisted at 24 months.

The effect of calf muscular vein thrombosis on the prognosis within one year postoperatively of geriatric hip fracture patients: a propensity score-matched analysis.

Introduction: Calf muscular vein thrombosis (CMVT) is a type of distal deep vein thrombosis, which is common in geriatric hip fracture patients. However, studies focusing on whether the orthopedic operation has an impact on the prognosis of geriatric hip fracture patients with CMVT are very limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore whether geriatric hip fractures with CMVT affect the mortality of patients within one year postoperatively.

The effect of dexmedetomidine on acute kidney injury after elective major abdominal surgery : a retrospective single-center propensity score matched study.

Background: Major abdominal surgery is a kind of high-risk surgery type for postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) among non-cardiac surgeries. Despite dexmedetomidine exerts significant renal protective effects in cardiac surgeries and animal studies, whether it is associated with a lower incidence of AKI in major abdominal surgeries remains unclear.

Methods: From January 2019 to July 2021, patients undergoing elective major abdominal surgery in West China Hospital were enrolled.

Background: Paediatric acute kidney injury (AKI) is common and linked to longer hospitalisation and mortality. We investigated whether a continuous intraoperative infusion of dexmedetomidine, which increases renal blood flow, was associated with a lower risk of postoperative AKI in paediatric patients undergoing noncardiac surgery.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included paediatric patients undergoing noncardiac surgery between January 2019 and July 2021.

Objective: There is no clear evidence on the risk of gestational weight loss (GWL) for individuals with obesity. Our study aimed to assess the association between GWL and adverse perinatal outcomes among individuals with obesity.

Methods: This population-based retrospective cohort study examined individuals with prepregnancy BMI ≥ 30 kg/m who had a singleton pregnancy, using Ontario, Canada, birth registry data from 2012 to 2020.

Background: Triphasic waves (TWs) on electroencephalograms (EEGs) have predominantly been observed in adults, often associated with Creutzfeldt‒Jakob disease and metabolic encephalopathy. However, TWs have also been linked to various nonmetabolic and structural abnormalities. Additionally, reports of TWs in children are rare.

Cognitive impairment in children with 5q-associated spinal muscular atrophy type 1: two case reports and the review of the literature.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations in the survival motor neuron 1 (SMN1) gene on chromosome 5, leading to the degeneration of lower motor neurons. There are few studies on cognitive impairment comorbid with SMA. Here, we report two cases of severe cognitive impairment in Chinese children with SMA type 1, marking the first such reports in this demographic.

Adaptive haze pixel intensity perception transformer structure for image dehazing networks.

In the realm of deep learning-based networks for dehazing using paired clean-hazy image datasets to address complex real-world haze scenarios in daytime environments and cross-dataset challenges remains a significant concern due to algorithmic inefficiencies and color distortion. To tackle these issues, we propose SwinTieredHazymers (STH), a dehazing network designed to adaptively discern pixel intensities in hazy images and compute haze residue for clarity restoration. Through a unique three-branch design, we hierarchically modulate haze residuals by leveraging the global features brought by Transformer and the local features brought by Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) which has led to the algorithm's widespread applicability.

Case Report: Cerebral folate deficiency caused by variant.

Background: Cerebral folate transport deficiency (CFD) is a rare neurological disease characterized by a deficiency in 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) in the cerebrospinal fluid, with a normal peripheral total folate level. Late infantile-onset refractory seizures, ataxia, movement disorders, hypotonia, developmental delays, and developmental regression characterize CFD. Some patients present with visual and hearing impairments and autism-like manifestations.

The fibular intramedullary nail versus plate fixation for ankle fractures in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Objective: The effectiveness and safety of fibular intramedullary nail fixation (FINF) compared to plate fixation (PF) in treating ankle fractures among adults remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of FINF versus PF, aiming to provide orthopedic surgeons with valuable insights when choosing between the two internal fixation methods for patient treatment.

ATR/Chk1 interacting lncRNA modulates DNA damage response to induce breast cancer chemoresistance.

The ATR-Chk1 pathway is essential in cellular responses to DNA damage and replication stress, whereas the role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in regulating this pathway remains largely unknown. In this study, we identify an ATR and Chk1 interacting lncRNA (ACIL, also known as LRRC75A-AS1 or SNHG29), which promotes the phosphorylation of Chk1 by ATR upon DNA damages. High ACIL levels are associated with chemoresistance to DNA damaging agents and poor outcome of breast cancer patients.

A mouse model of CP was established by repeated intraperitoneal administration of caerulein to induce abdominal visceral pain.

Objective: This study was based on a retrospective clinical observational cohort study of a two-center application of nusinersen in China to evaluate the clinical efficacy and adverse effects of nusinersen in the treatment of SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) Types 1-3.

Methods: Clinical data from children with clinically and genetically confirmed 5qSMA from a double center in western China (the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University and the Second Hospital of West China of Sichuan University). All children were younger than 18 years of age.
