One method of achieving spatially specific, multi-component nanoheterostructures is to combine multiple forms of post-synthetic modification. Applying cation or anion exchange to CuS nanorods creates complex nanoheterostructures. Combining such anion and cation exchanges generates a system which uncovers the interplay between these two processes and understands the cooperativity between postsynthetic modifications more broadly.

The ability to accurately quantify biological age could help monitor and control healthy aging. Epigenetic clocks have emerged as promising tools for estimating biological age, yet they have been developed from heterogeneous bulk tissues, and are thus composites of two aging processes, one reflecting the change of cell-type composition with age and another reflecting the aging of individual cell-types. There is thus a need to dissect and quantify these two components of epigenetic clocks, and to develop epigenetic clocks that can yield biological age estimates at cell-type resolution.

Accurate polyp image segmentation is of great significance, because it can help in the detection of polyps. Convolutional neural network (CNN) is a common automatic segmentation method, but its main disadvantage is the long training time. Transformer is another method that can be adapted to the automatic segmentation method by employing a self-attention mechanism, which essentially assigns different importance weights to each piece of information, thus achieving high computational efficiency during segmentation.

BiTe-based alloys are representatively commercialized thermoelectric materials for refrigeration and power generation. Refrigeration mainly utilizes thermoelectric properties near room temperature, while the power generation temperature is relatively high. However, it is difficult for bismuth telluride to maintain good thermoelectric properties throughout the entire temperature range of 300-500 K.

The construction of N-containing aromatic compounds from lignin is of great importance to expanding the boundary of the biorefinery and meeting the demand for value-added biorefinery. However, it remains a huge challenge due to the complex lignin structure and the incompatible catalysis for C-O/C-C bond cleavage and C-N formation. Herein, sustainable synthesis of cinnamonitrile derivatives from lignin β-O-4 model compounds in the presence of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine oxide (TEMPO), (diacetoxyiodo)benzene (BAIB), and a strong base has been achieved in a one-pot, two-step fashion under transition-metal-free conditions.

Simultaneously controlling both stoichiometry and atom arrangement during the synthesis of multimetallic nanoparticles is often challenging, especially when the desired metal precursors exhibit large differences in their intrinsic reduction kinetics. In such cases, traditional synthetic methods often lead to the formation of exclusively phase-segregated structures. In this study, we demonstrate that the relative reduction kinetics of the metal precursors can be manipulated independently of their intrinsic differences in reduction rates by modulating the instantaneous concentrations of the metal cation precursors.

The dimensionality of materials fundamentally influences their electronic and optical properties, presenting a complex interplay with nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics that remains largely unexplored. In this review, we focus on the influence of dimensionality on the NLO properties of graphitic allotropes, ranging from 0D fullerenes, 1D carbon nanotubes, and 2D graphene, to 3D graphite, all of which share a consistent sp hybridized chemical bonding structure. We examine the distinct physical and NLO properties across these dimensions, underscoring the profound impact of dimensionality.

Green and atom-economic depolymerization of lignin remains a great challenge due to its complex non-repetitive structure and the inert property for chemo-digestion. A redox-neutral lignin depolymerization system without the use of extra oxidant and/or reductant over a Co-NC catalyst has been developed in this work, providing the first non-noble metal heterogeneous catalytic system for redox-neutral valorization of lignin. Mechanistic studies based on control reactions and deuterium labeling experiments suggest that the reaction proceeds via a metal-catalyzed dehydrogenation of C-OH to afford a carbonyl intermediate, followed by C-O bond cleavage (via hydrogenolysis) to afford monophenols and aromatic ketone products.

This paper investigates the influence of industry-level overvaluation on technological acquisitions, utilizing merger and acquisition (M&A) data from Chinese listed firms spanning 2007 to 2022. Our analysis confirms that industry-level overvaluation promotes technological acquisitions, a finding that remains significant even after several robustness checks. Compared to acquirers with lower financial constraints, those with higher financial constraints rely more on industry-level overvaluation to drive technological acquisitions.

N-participated lignin depolymerization is of great importance for the transformation of waste lignin into value-added chemicals. The vast majority of developed strategies employ organic amines as nitrogen source, and considerable methods rely on excessive use of strong base, which suffers severe environmental issues. Herein, benzonitrile derivatives are synthesized from oxidized lignin β-O-4 model compounds in the presence of solid nitrogen source (NH)CO under mild, base-free conditions over commercially available copper catalyst.
