Unlike most rivers globally, nearly all lowland Amazonian rivers have unregulated flow, supporting seasonally flooded floodplain forests. Floodplain forests harbor a unique tree species assemblage adapted to flooding and specialized fauna, including fruit-eating fish that migrate seasonally into floodplains, favoring expansive floodplain areas. Frugivorous fish are forest-dependent fauna critical to forest regeneration via seed dispersal and support commercial and artisanal fisheries.

The prevalence of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome is increasing rapidly, and cardiovascular complications pose significant risks in individuals with kidney disease and metabolic dysfunction. Understanding the mechanisms of CKM disorders is crucial, as is the discovery of novel preventive treatments. This study aimed to examine the therapeutic effects of a specially formulated nitric oxide-enhancing food additive in a mouse model of CKM syndrome induced by unilateral nephrectomy (UNX) in combination with chronic Western diet (WD) feeding.

PET analysis is conventionally performed as a two-stage process of quantification followed by analysis. We recently introduced SiMBA (Simultaneous Multifactor Bayesian Analysis), a hierarchical model that performs quantification and analysis for all brain regions of all individuals at once, and in so doing improves both the accuracy of parameter estimation as well as inferential efficiency. However until now, SiMBA has only been implemented for the two-tissue compartment model.

The aim of this study was to explore biological interaction and pathophysiology mechanisms in a new mouse model of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome, induced by chronic moderate renal failure in combination with consumption of a customized Western diet rich in carbohydrates, fat and salt. Male C57BL/6J mice were subjected to unilateral nephrectomy, fed a customized Western diet rich not only in sugar and fat but also in salt, and followed for 12 weeks or 20 weeks. Sham-operated mice on a standard chow served as healthy controls.

Background: Green leafy vegetables (GLV) contain inorganic nitrate, an anion with potential prebiotic effects on the oral microbiome. However, it remains unclear whether GLV and pharmacological supplementation [potassium nitrate (PN)] with a nitrate salt induce similar effects on the oral microbiome.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the effect of GLV with PN supplementation on the oral microbiome composition and salivary biomarkers in individuals with high blood pressure.

This paper studies the effect of Green Public Procurement (GPP) on competition, bids, and winning bids under two different regulation periods where the latter include more explicitly expressed GPP ambitions. Based on detailed data from Swedish internal cleaning service procurements, our results imply that environmental considerations might not influence the bids as required for GPP to be considered an effective environmental policy instrument. Over time, lower degree of competition and increased bids are found.

Nitric oxide (NO) from endothelial NO synthase importantly contributes to vascular homeostasis. Reduced NO production or increased scavenging during disease conditions with oxidative stress contribute to endothelial dysfunction and NO deficiency. In addition to the classical enzymatic NO synthases (NOS) system, NO can also be generated via the nitrate-nitrite-NO pathway.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is commonly treated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). SSRIs inhibit the serotonin transporter (5-HTT), but the downstream antidepressant mechanism of action of these drugs is poorly understood. The serotonin 1B (5-HT1B) receptor is functionally linked to 5-HTT and 5-HT1B receptor binding and 5-HT1B receptor mRNA is reduced in the raphe nuclei after SSRI administration in primates and rodents, respectively.

Early-onset psychosis is linked to adverse long-term outcomes, recurrent disease course, and prolonged periods of untreated illness; thus highlighting the urgency of improving early identification and intervention. This paper discusses three cases where initial emphasis on psychosocial treatments led to diagnostic and therapeutic delays: (1) a 15-year-old misdiagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder and autism, who improved on bipolar medication and antipsychotics; (2) another 15-year-old misdiagnosed with autism, who stabilized on lithium and antipsychotics, subsequently allowing for gender dysphoria evaluation; (3) a 9-year-old autistic boy incorrectly treated for ADHD, who recovered with appropriate antipsychotic treatment. These cases illuminate the vital importance of adhering to a diagnostic hierarchy, prioritizing diagnostic utility, and conducting longitudinal evaluations to facilitate early targeted treatment of psychotic symptoms in early-onset psychosis.
