Aims: To present a case of primary ventriculitis in a 53-year-old patient caused by Streptococcus intermedius, emphasizing the rarity of the condition and the challenges in achieving clinical improvement despite targeted therapy.
Methods: The patient underwent clinical evaluation, including CT and MRI imaging, as well as CSF analysis. Empirical antibiotic therapy was initiated with cefotaxime and metronidazole, followed by targeted therapy based on CSF culture results.

Objective: The best results in glioblastoma (GBM) are obtained through aggressive treatment comprising maximally radical but safe resection followed by chemoradiotherapy. However, certain patients will undergo only stereotactic biopsy. Objectives: To determine the prognostic potential of S100B protein in patients with craniocerebral injury, correlation between S100B protein and time, selected internal diseases, body habitus, polytrauma, and season.
Methods: We examined the levels of S100B protein in 124 patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Results: The S100B protein level 72 h after injury and changes over 72 h afterwards are statistically significant for prediction of a good clinical condition 1 month after injury.
Our study evaluates the sensitivity of papilledema as a sign of high intracranial pressure in children. Patients younger than 18 years old, diagnosed with increased ICP, and who had received dilated fundus examination between 2019 and 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Factors including the patient's age, sex, aetiology, duration of signs or symptoms, intracranial pressure (ICP), and presence of papilledema were evaluated.

The aim of our study was to use novel massively parallel sequencing (MPS) approaches to examine rare variants of IDH1/2 in Czech diffuse astrocytic and oligodendroglial tumors (gliomas) patients below 55 years of age who had been immunohistochemically (IHC) diagnosed as IDH1 R132H negative. The IHC IDH1 status (wild type or mutant) of 275 tissue samples was analyzed using antibodies against the IDH1 R132H protein.

Background: Transsphenoid meningoencephalocele is a congenital anomaly formed by herniation of an ependyma delimited sac through a bony defect into the sphenoid sinus. The sac contains cerebrospinal fluid and neurovascular structures. The prevalence of transsphenoid meningoencephalocele in the adult population is rare.

Background: Stroke-like syndrome is defined as a rare, delayed complication of brain oncotherapy. Cases with more favorable brain cancer diagnoses and longer life expectancy have been previously reported, but here we present, for the first time, three long-term survivors of glioblastoma with stroke-like syndromes.
Methods And Results: Three young or middle-aged patients underwent tumor resection and chemoradiotherapy.
Background: Endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approaches are broadly used nowadays for a vast spectrum of pathologies sited in the anterior and middle cranial fossa. The usage of neuronavigation systems (neuronavigation) in these surgeries is crucial for improving orientations deeply inside the skull and increasing patient safety.
Methods: The aim of this study was to assess the use of optical neuronavigation, together with an intraoperative O-arm O2 imaging system, in a group of patients with hypophyseal adenoma that underwent a transnasal transsphenoidal surgery, and correlate the accuracy and its deviation during the navigational process against the use of conventional neuronavigation that uses preoperative MRI and CT scans.

Background: The new second-generation computer system BS-II (Bio-Spine-II) based on the National Instruments' development environment has been designed and constructed for evaluating the stability of various surgical fixative methods of the cadaverous lumbar spine (L1-L5). BS-II holds the measured sample using aluminum fixtures and using four computer-controlled stepper motors; it performs a circular movement (warm up of the specimen), programmatically driven extension (back bend), right and left lateral flexion (lateral bend), left and right axial torsion (rotation), and axial compression (pressure). Four strain gauges are used to measure the stiffness of the sample.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObject: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is the only variant of dementia disorders possibly treatable by neurosurgical intervention. iNPH is a neurodegenerative condition clinically characterized by gait ataxia, urinary incontinence, and memory disturbance. We present one of the largest single-center studies, which was designed to prove efficacy of our low-pressure setting of gravitational valve at all three symptoms of iNPH and to find statistically significant cut-off time for best clinical improvement according to the duration of symptoms.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Mastoid emissary vein is especially important from the neurosurgical point of view, because it is located in variable number in the area of the occipitomastoid suture and it can become a source of significant bleeding in surgical approaches through the mastoid process, especially in retrosigmoid craniotomy, which is used for approaches to pathologies localized in the cerebellopontine angle. Ideal imaging method for diagnosis of these neglected structures when planning a surgical approach is high-resolution computed tomography. The aim of this work was to provide detailed information about this issue.
