Tyrosinase is a critical enzyme related to various pigmentation disorders and browning of fruits and vegetables. In this study, a novel inhibitor pentagalloylglucose (PGG) against tyrosinase was prepared from tannic acid with the chemical structure elucidated using HPLC, ESI-MS, H- and C NMR. Its inhibitory effect and the underlying mechanism on tyrosinase were explored by enzyme kinetics, UV-scanning, copper-ion chelation, fluorescence, circular dichroism, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and molecular docking simulation.

There are few reports of rhabdomyolysis caused by anticoagulants, and it is extremely rare for it to be caused by dabigatran etexilate. An 86-year-old female experienced sudden muscle weakness and pain, a significant increase in Creatine kinase, and renal impairment after oral administration of dabigatran etexilate for 3 weeks. The enhanced thigh MRI showed abnormal signal in multiple thigh muscle groups, indicating that the lesions should be considered inflammatory diseases.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is one of the most common urological malignancies, and once metastasis occurs, it often has a poor prognosis and lacks effective treatment. Therefore, there is an urgent need to screen some new biomarkers and explore their molecular mechanisms to improve the early clinical diagnosis and targeted therapy of ccRCC. (SPARC/osteonectin, CWCV and Kazal-like domains proteoglycan 1) is a conserved multi-domain proteoglycan that plays an important role in the development of multiple cancer types; however, its prognostic value in ccRCC has not been investigated.

DddA-derived cytosine base editors (DdCBEs)-which are fusions of split DddA halves and transcription activator-like effector (TALE) array proteins from bacteria-enable targeted C•G-to-T•A conversions in mitochondrial DNA. However, their genome-wide specificity is poorly understood. Here we show that the mitochondrial base editor induces extensive off-target editing in the nuclear genome.

Due to a steady increase in the number of individuals suffering from alopecia, this condition has recently received increasing attention. Alopecia can be caused by various pathological, environmental or psychological factors, eventually resulting in abnormalities in hair follicle (HF) structures or HF regeneration disorders, especially dysregulated hair follicle stem cell (HFSC) behaviour. HFSC behaviour includes activation, proliferation and differentiation.

Background: The present meta-analysis analyzed the efficacy and safety of wrist-ankle acupuncture (WAA) as an additional therapy for postoperative multimodal analgesia after orthopedic surgery.

Methods: Electronic databases, including Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CNKI, SinoMed, Wanfang, and VIP, were searched to identify randomized controlled trials and cohort studies that reported details of WAA as an additional therapy for postoperative multiple analgesia in orthopedic surgery before October 1, 2021. Analyzed outcomes included time points of the visual analog scale, use of patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA), and postoperative adverse events.

Revealing community assembly and their impacts on ecosystem service is a core issue in microbial ecology. However, what ecological factors play dominant roles in phyllosphere fungal community assembly and how they link to crop quality are largely unknown. Here, we applied internal transcriptional spacer high-throughput sequencing to investigate foliar fungal community assembly across three cultivars of a Solanaceae crop (tobacco) and two planting regions with different climatic conditions.

Cellular reprogramming can manipulate the identity of cells to generate the desired cell types. The use of cell intrinsic components, including oocyte cytoplasm and transcription factors, can enforce somatic cell reprogramming to pluripotent stem cells. By contrast, chemical stimulation by exposure to small molecules offers an alternative approach that can manipulate cell fate in a simple and highly controllable manner.

Background: Non-neutropenic pulmonary aspergillosis is one of the most common and serious fungal infections. Previous studies have shown that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of pattern recognition receptors genes are associated with susceptibility to aspergillosis. NOD-like receptors (NLRs) play an important role in the immunological response against fungal infection.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of treating high-risk patients presenting with severe aortic regurgitation (AR) or aortic stenosis (AS) using transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Methods: This retrospective study included 290 consecutive patients with symptomatic severe aortic regurgitation or aortic stenosis. All patients who underwent TAVR with J-Valve (Med Tech College LLC, Fort Wayne, IN, USA) at our institution between March 2014 and July 2019.

Metal halide perovskite scintillators encounter unprecedented opportunities in indirect ionizing radiation detection due to their high quantum yields. However, the long scintillation lifetime of microseconds upon irradiation, known as the afterglow phenomenon, obviously limits their fast development. Here, a new type of hybrid X-ray detector wafer combining direct methylamine lead iodide (MAPbI ) semiconductor and indirect zero-dimensional cesium copper iodide (Cs Cu I ) scintillator through low-cost fast tableting processes is reported.

Air pollution and ischemic stroke (IS) are both vital factors affecting the health of Beijing citizens. This study aims at exploring the associations between air pollution, meteorology, and the hospital admission of IS (IS HA). Information on 476,659 IS inpatients in secondary and higher hospitals in Beijing from 2013 to 2018 were collected.

The development of gas sensors based on two-dimensional (2D) layered materials has received lots of focus attributing to their excellent gas sensitivity. Here, a black phosphorus (BP) gas sensor device is fabricated based on high-quality few-layered BP microribbons using a facile route. Although BP is well known to oxidize in ambient conditions, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) mapping manifests that the few-layered BP microribbons undergo slight oxidation and contamination during the grinding process.

Despite the abundance of iron in nature, iron acquisition is a challenge for life in general because the element mostly exists in the extremely insoluble ferric (Fe) form in oxic environments. To overcome this, microbes have evolved multiple iron uptake strategies, a common one of which is through the secretion of siderophores, which are iron-chelating metabolites generated endogenously. Siderophore-mediated iron transport, a standby when default iron transport routes are abolished under iron rich conditions, is essential under iron starvation conditions.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) serves as an independent risk factor for lower back pain and is closely associated with spinal musculoskeletal disorders, including lumbar disc herniation, radiculopathy, and myelopathy. Interleukin-17 (IL-17), also named IL-17A, is a critical signature cytokine of T-helper 17 cells. Upon binding to the IL-17 receptor A/C heterodimeric complex, IL-17 can trigger multiple signal transduction pathways to stimulate gene transcription and increase messenger RNA stability.
