Experimental results for homogeneous nucleation of water droplets in the presence of argon, nitrogen, and, for the first time, nitrous oxide as carrier gases are reported. The main objective of the study was to investigate the effects of different carrier gases on the nucleation rate. These gases differ in the number of atoms comprising the molecule, which affects the expansion ratio required to reach the target nucleation temperature.

In the title molecular salt, 3C5H12N(+)·HSO4 (-)·SO4 (2-), each cation adopts a chair conformation. In the crystal, the hydrogen sulfate ion is connected to the sulfate ion by a strong O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. The packing also features a number of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which lead to a three-dimensional network structure.

The title compound, (C5H7N2)2[Cu(H2O)6](SO4)2·4H2O [systematic name: bis(2-aminopyridinium) hexaaquacopper(II) bis(sulfate) tetrahydrate], comprises axially elongated hexa-aqua-coordinated octa-hedral Cu(II) ions located on an inversion centre, non-coordinating sulfate anions, 2-amino-pyridinium cations and lattice water mol-ecules. The crystal structure is built of successive inorganic and organic layers extending parallel to (001) that are connected by an extensive three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network of the type O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O, as well as π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance 3.4140 (14) Å, offset 0.

The accumulated biomaterial is the informational and research potential that form the basis for the work of the scientists in different spheres of biology and medicine. The repository comprises 5 sections: tumor and non-tumor tissues obtained in the course of autopsies, biopsies, surgeries, samples of blood and its components, of DNA, induced sputum, saliva, and other from people exposed or unexposed (control) to radiation.

The adaptive mechanisms of action of reflexotherapy are analysed. It was shown in physiological and biochemical experiments on the whole organism, the isolated hearts and strips of resistive arteries of animals that stimulation of acupuncture points by different physical factors increased the activity of opioid, antioxidative, and other stress-limiting systems, reduced secretion of corticosteron during stress, stimulated biosynthesis of stress proteins, induced cyto- and cardioprotective effects, prevented or limited functional and structural hyperadrenal damages. Clinical investigations demonstrated significant hypothensive, anti-ishemic and anti-arrhythmic effects of reflexotherapy, improved resistance of healthy subjects and patients with cardiovascular diseases to physical and emotional loadings.

The control group included 67 Ozersk residents of a corresponding age and gender, without any occupational exposure, who were examined at the same period. The immune system is the most important component in homeostasis.

The objective of the present study was the dynamic estimation of the intensity of pain syndrome with the use of a visual-analog scale (VAS), characteristics of the psychological status and cognitive disorders, quality of life, and brain electrogenesis in 50 patients presenting with vertebrogenic pain syndrome of lumbar-sacral localization. It was shown that long-standing pain syndrome plays the dysadaptive role, causes structural and functional changes in the central nervous system (CNS), and is responsible for psychoemotional and cognitive disorders. The introduction of transcranial stimulation in the combined treatment of such patients promotes correction and reversibility of the above disorders, enhances the efficacy of electrotherapy, and improves the quality of life in the subjects with vertebrogenic pain syndrome.

Clinical studies involving 67 patients with arterial hypertension (AH) have demonstrated that a single course of trans-auricular low-frequency electrical puncture produced a marked stress-relieving effect that was manifested as the decreased anxiety level, normalization of neurohumoral regulation of arterial pressure and central hemodynamics, improved tolerance of controlled psycho-emotional loading, beneficial effect on cerebral blood circulation, lipid and electrolyte metabolism. In addition, the proposed therapeutic modality resulted in substantial reduction of arterial pressure. Taken together, these observations give reason to consider it as a promising tool for the treatment of patients presenting with arterial hypertension.

The selected conditions of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI TOF MS) provided an increase in the method sensitivity (up to 1-10 fmol of oligonucleotide in sample) and registration of reliable spectra of oligodeoxynucleotide thiophosphoryl analogues. This enables to reliably prove the presence of the specified number of thiophosphoryl bonds within synthetic sequences.

The characteristics of the functional activity of phagocyte blood cells in patients with destructive pulmonary tuberculosis caused by medicinal sensitive and medicinal resistant infective agents were studied. In the process of pulmonary tuberculosis, irrespective of the medicinal sensitivity of infective agents before and during treatment, a decrease in the phagocytic activity of neutrophil granulocytes and the level of the expression of Fcgamma- and C3b-receptors on monocytes with a simultaneous increase in the spontaneous production of oxygen metabolites in neutophils and a rise in the adsorptive capacity of monocytic cells were observed.

It also shows marked changes in the levels the studied cytokines in relation to the type of a stimulant (lipopolysaccharide, phytohemagglutinin, tuberculin) and during antituberculous chemotherapy.

The cytogenic status of peripheral lymphocytes was studied in 67 patients with drug-sensitive pulmonary tuberculosis. The latter was found to be attended by cytogenetic disorganization whose signs were present before and 2 months of intensive chemotherapy. In pulmonary tuberculosis, structural disorganization in the lymphocytic chromosomal apparatus was characterized by the elevated levels of cells and with changes in the structure and number of chromosomes.

Combination of AMF with constant magnetic field in the same regime and location does not produce a hypolipidemic effect in atherosclerotic animals and this, in combination with increased vascular permeability may aggravate the condition. Activated microcirculation, antioxidant and antiproteinase effects in activation of biosynthetic processes in the cerebral cortex reflect inhibition in the CNS in this combined effect and create conditions for a hypotensive effect.

Accumulation of cytotoxic factors in the medium was detected 1 h after contact of K562 and L929 cells or after contact of L929 cells with purified membranes of K562 cells. TNF-alpha or immunologically related proteins, or both, but not Fas-ligand or lymphotoxin, were also accumulated in membranes of K562 and L929 cells shortly after these cells had been allowed to contact each other.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIt has been demonstrated that joint cultivation of human K-562 cells and mouse L-929 cells results in triggering apoptosis in L-929 cells and possibly also in K-562 cells. Analysis of proteins recovered from the culture medium has revealed the presence of three cytotoxic factors including TNF-alpha. This is the first observation of a release of cytotoxic factors by non-lymphoid cells in response to a direct contact with cells of different origin.
