  • - The study investigates how the quality of autopsies and toxicological investigations affects the accuracy of cause of death certifications in New Zealand, highlighting a lack of knowledge on potential biases in Coronial cases that skip toxicology testing.
  • - A review of injury-related deaths from 2014 revealed that 25% of cases for individuals under 85 did not include toxicology reports, with women and specific age groups (under 15 and over 65) being less likely to have these reports.
  • - The results indicate significant gaps in toxicological investigations, especially in deaths from falls, which can lead to selection biases; understanding these biases is crucial for policymakers and researchers to address the limitations in toxicological evidence available.
