Worldwide, lung cancer remains the predominant cause of cancer cases and deaths and poses significant health challenges, with surgical resection being a key treatment. Post-surgery, patients often experience functional impairments. This study aimed to develop a comprehensive ICF version for assessing the functional profile and disability in lung cancer patients post-thoracic surgery undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation using the ICF and WHODAS 2.

Lung cancer often presents with pain and breathlessness, frequently necessitating surgical procedures, such as lung lobectomy. A pivotal component of postoperative care is rehabilitation, aimed not only at improving the clinical condition but also at influencing the patient's functional profile. In a study conducted at the Clinic of Thoracic Surgery and Respiratory Rehabilitation in the Regional Multispecialist Center for Oncology and Traumatology of the Nicolaus Copernicus Memorial Hospital in Lodz, the effectiveness of rehabilitation intervention was assessed in 50 patients ( = 27 M, = 23 F) postlobectomy due to early stage nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Background: Accurate prediction of postoperative pulmonary function in patients with non-small cell lung cancer is crucial for proper qualification for surgery, the only effective therapeutic method. The aim of the study was to select the most accurate method for acquisition and processing of lung perfusion scintigraphy (LPS) combined with spirometry for prediction of postoperative pulmonary function in patients qualified for surgery.

Material And Methods: LPS was performed in 70 patients (40 males, 30 females), with preoperative spirometry (mean FEV1preop = 2.

Many clinical conditions should be considered in the differential diagnosis of life-threatening events in cystic fibrosis patients after a lung graft transplant. We report on a 17-year-old boy who underwent a lobectomy owing to an inflammatory endobronchial polyp complicated by massive airways bleeding 12 months after having had a bilateral sequential lung graft for cystic fibrosis. This unusual complication underscores the requirement for flexible bronchoscopy in patients with recurrent infection at any stage after transplant.
