Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to explore the link between microscopic degeneration in the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) and the process of apoptosis in 26 patients who had surgery for LHBT issues. - Researchers assessed histopathological changes using Bonar scores and found that while age did not correlate with all degeneration measures, there was a positive link between age and the modified Bonar score, as well as the expression of the p53 apoptosis marker. - Ultimately, the study concluded that apoptosis expression does not directly correlate with the degree of degeneration in late-stage tendinopathy, but changes in collagen and tissue degeneration are significantly associated with patient age.

: The objective of this retrospective study was to investigate the association between acetabulum fractures; the mechanism of injury; and variables such as BMI, duration of hospital stay, blood loss, and surgery time. By exploring these factors, we aim to enhance our understanding of them and their impact on the healing process and the subsequent management of pelvic fractures. : This study included 67 of 136 consecutive patients who were admitted for pelvic ring fracture surgery between 2017 and 2022.

The immune system, unlike other systems, must be flexible and able to "adapt" to fully cope with lurking dangers. The transition from intracorporeal balance to homeostasis disruption is associated with activation of inflammatory signaling pathways, which causes modulation of the immunology response. Chemotactic cytokines, signaling molecules, and extracellular vesicles act as critical mediators of inflammation and participate in intercellular communication, conditioning the immune system's proper response.

Article Synopsis
  • * This review compares popular scoring systems for tendon pathology, including the Bonar, Movin, Astrom and Rausing, and Soslowsky scores, with the Bonar system being the most widely used.
  • * The role of neovascularization in tendon disorders is complex; it's essential for healing but also contributes to degeneration when tissue regeneration is inadequate, suggesting a need for reevaluation in scoring systems.

This study aimed to perform a comprehensive systematic review, which reports the role of the Bonar score in the histopathological assessment of tendinopathy and its clinical relevance. To identify all of the studies that reported relevant information on the Bonar scoring system and tendinopathy, an extensive search of the major and the most significant electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane Central, ScienceDirect, SciELO, Web of Science) was performed. A systematic review of the literature was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

We describe a case of cardiac tamponade caused by ProTacks Autosuture used for mesh fixation during a laparoscopic Nissen operation with giant paraesophageal hernia repair. Perforations of the posterior descendent artery and epicardial vein of the right ventricle were caused by ProTacks used for Parietex Composite Mesh fixation. Protruding ProTacks were secured from inside the pericardiac sac with a synthetic vascular patch during emergency sternotomy.

The radial artery (RA) beside the left internal mammary artery and veins is often used for coronary artery bypass grafting. The aim of this study was to assess arm temperature changes after removal of the radial artery and determine whether there is an effect on hand function. Between April and December 2005, fifty patients underwent myocardial revascularization employing the pedicle RA as one of the coronary grafts.

The paper presents the temperature analysis of the myocardial surface at the cohort of 11 patients with coronary artery disease, who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting with cardiopulmonary bypass. Left and right ventricle temperature changes were registered with Agema Thermovision 900 SW/TE system during cold cardioplegia infusion. Cardioplegia was delivered by the coronary sinus and by the aortic root.
