Article Synopsis
  • Leaflet thrombosis (LT) is a complex and poorly understood complication that can occur after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), prompting the need for better prediction models to identify at-risk patients.
  • A study involving 101 TAVI patients utilized imaging and lab tests to determine various clinical and biological factors associated with LT, discovering that certain elevated and decreased lab values could predict its occurrence.
  • The researchers created an EFFORT score to quantify the risk, finding that patients scoring 2 or higher had an 85.7% likelihood of developing LT, indicating the score's potential as a powerful tool for risk assessment post-TAVI.

The peak pressure of a granular debris flow at low Froude conditions can be calculated with knowledge of the stress anisotropy and the bulk density as well as the run-up height at impact. Based on a small-scale physical model, measurements of stress anisotropy and flow density values at impact are presented and applied to existing run-up prediction models, and further compared with back-calculated run-up coefficients from measured maximum impact pressures. For this purpose, we conducted 17 experiments with impact measurements and six experiments without impact measurements at Froude numbers, ranging from 0.

Case: A 33-year-old man with previously diagnosed lupus membranous nephropathy presented with painful swelling in both legs. Laboratory tests revealed acute kidney injury, and imaging studies by duplex ultrasound and computed tomography scan showed acute thrombosis of both renal veins, the infrahepatic inferior vena cava, and both iliofemoral venous segments. Initially, pharmacomechanical thrombolysis led to an insufficient morphological result.
