Metabolic oligosaccharide engineering (MOE) is a classical chemical approach to perturb, profile and perceive glycans in physiological systems, but probes upon bioorthogonal reaction require accessibility and the background signal readout makes it challenging to achieve glycan quantification. Here we develop SeMOE, a selenium-based metabolic oligosaccharide engineering strategy that concisely combines elemental analysis and MOE,enabling the mass spectrometric imaging of glycome. We also demonstrate that the new-to-nature SeMOE probes allow for detection, quantitative measurement and visualization of glycans in diverse biological contexts.

The jumonji domain-containing protein 6 (JMJD6) gene catalyzes the arginine demethylation and lysine hydroxylation of histone and a growing list of its known substrate molecules, including p53 and U2AF65, suggesting a possible role in mRNA splicing and transcription in cancer progression. Inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine made from Sabin strains (sIPV) has been encouraged to introduce in the "Global Polio Eradication & Endgame Strategic Plan" and increasingly used worldwide. Attenuated Sabin strains used in manufacture of oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) and sIPV may regain full or partial neurovirulence during growth in vaccine recipients and the vaccine manufacturing processes. Ensuring the molecular consistency of sIPV batches and that no mutation accumulates beyond the level present in past batches are important for quality control of vaccine manufacture process.
