Background: Senile osteoporosis (SOP) is a systemic bone disease characterized by increased susceptibility to fractures. However, there is currently no effective treatment for SOP. The Zhuangyao Jianshen Wan (ZYJSW) pill is traditionally believed to possess kidney-nourishing and bone-strengthening effects, demonstrating efficacy in treating fractures.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) presents a formidable challenge, characterized by as-yet-unclear mechanical intricacies within cartilage and the dysregulation of bone homeostasis. Our preliminary data revealed the encouraging potential of a Sargassum polysaccharide (SP), in promoting chondrogenesis. The aim of our study is to comprehensively assess the therapeutic effects of SP on OA models and further elucidate its potential mechanism.

Article Synopsis
  • * Tubson-2 decoction (TBD), a Mongolian medicinal blend, has shown promise in preventing post-menopausal osteoporosis, but its effects on RA-related osteoporosis and its active ingredients are not fully understood.
  • * Research using collagen-induced arthritis rats indicated that TBD notably reduced arthritis severity and bone loss, showing comparable benefits to other treatments and highlighting isochlorogenic acid A (ICA) as a key compound in lowering inflammation through specific signaling pathways.

Impaired bone formation is the main characteristics of glucocorticoid (GC)-induced osteoporosis (GIO), which can be ameliorated by tanshinol, an aqueous polyphenol isolated from Bunge. However, the underlying mechanism is still not entirely clear. In the present study, we determined the parameters related to microstructure and function of bone tissue, bone microcirculation, and TXNIP signaling to investigate the beneficial effects of tanshinol on skeleton and its molecular mechanism in GIO rats.
