Background: 6-Nitrodopamine (6-ND) released from rat vas deferens acts an endogenous modulator of vas deferens contractility.
Objectives: To investigate whether rat isolated seminal vesicles (RISV) releases 6-ND, the mechanisms involved in the release, and the modulatory role of 6-ND on tissue contractility.
Methods: Rat seminal vesicles were removed and placed in Krebs-Henseleit's solution at 37°C for 30 min, and an aliquot was used to analyze the concentrations of 6-ND, dopamine, noradrenaline, and adrenaline by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
Two-dimensional (2D) silicon-based materials have garnered significant attention for their promising properties, making them suitable for various advanced technological applications. Here, we present Irida-Silicene (ISi), a novel 2D silicon allotrope inspired by Irida-Graphene (IG), which was recently proposed and is entirely composed of carbon atoms. ISi exhibits a buckled structure composed of 3-6-8 membered rings, unlike its planar carbon counterpart.

Purpose: Tirofiban has emerged as an adjunct therapy for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients undergoing endovascular treatment (EVT). However, its benefits for AIS patients with intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) remains unclear. This meta-analysis evaluates its efficacy and safety in ICAD-related AIS patients undergoing EVT.

In this study, we have investigated the nitrogen doping limits and their effects on NAMC's structural and electronic properties using density functional-based tight-binding simulations. Our results show that NAMC remains stable up to 35% nitrogen doping, beyond which the lattice becomes unstable.

The predicted structure of Ir-BN consists of alternating boron and nitrogen atoms, forming three distinct lattices with 3-, 6-, and 8-membered ring patterns. First-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) formalism and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations were performed to investigate its structural, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties.

During SARS-CoV-2 infection, Lf can hinder or prevent virus access to the intracellular environment. Severe cases of COVID-19 are related to increased production of cytokines, accompanied by a weak type 1 interferon response.

Graphyne and two-dimensional porous carbon-based materials have garnered significant attention due to their interesting structural characteristics and essential properties for new technological applications. Within this scope, this work investigates the structural, thermal, electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of a novel two-dimensional allotrope that combines triangular (T) and hexagonal (H) rings, connected by acetylenic linkages (graphyne-like), thus named TH-graphyne (TH-GY). This study comprehensively characterizes the proposed system's behavior using density functional theory, molecular dynamics, and classical reactive molecular dynamics simulations.

Irida-G is a flat sheet topologically arranged into 3-6-8 carbon rings exhibiting metallic and non-magnetic properties. In this study, we investigated the thermal transport properties of Irida-G using classical reactive molecular dynamics simulations.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review (CRD42022293857) following the latest PRISMA statement. We searched Medline (via Ovid), Embase (via Ovid), PsycINFO (via Ovid), CINAHL complete and Scopus databases, without year restriction, using search terms related to "sleep deprivation", "stress", "autonomic nervous system" and "cortisol".
The aim of this study was to develop a high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method for the determination of 6-cyanodopamine, 6-nitrodopamine, 6-nitrodopa, 6-nitroadrenaline and 6-bromodopamine in human plasma samples. Strata-X 33 μm solid-phase extraction cartridges were used for the extraction of the catecholamines from human plasma samples. The catecholamines were separated in a 150 × 3 mm Shim-pack GIST C-AQ column with 3 μm particle size, placed in an oven at 40°C and perfused with 82% mobile phase A (acetonitrile-HO; 90:10, v/v) + 0.

Main Methods: Left HISV obtained from patients undergoing prostatectomy surgery was suspended in a 3-mL organ bath containing warmed (37 °C) and gassed (95%O:5%CO) Krebs-Henseleit's solution (KHS) with ascorbic acid. An aliquot of 2 mL of the supernatant was used to quantify catecholamines by LC-MS/MS.

Background: Laparoscopy represented one of the most innovative surgical techniques approached in the surgery field. Dexmedetomidine association with general anesthesia promotes the response control to trauma by altering the neuroinflammatory reflex, provides better clinical outcomes in the postoperative period and reduces the excessive use of drugs with risk for addiction. This trial aims to evaluate the potential drug treatment of dexmedetomidine on organic function, with the targets in neuroinflammation, perioperative pain control and blood pressure measurements in a medium-sized surgical model.

One of the most allergenic species is the storage mite Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank). Protein extracts are produced from this mite for tests that help the clinical diagnosis (via prick test), treatment, and monitoring of disease progression in patients who had positive results for allergic reactions.

Background: The Brazilian Ministry of Health (MoH) recommends double screening (DS) for syphilis and HIV during the first and third trimesters of antenatal care (ANC) to mitigate vertical transmission. We surveyed DS outcomes and their associated factors in a priority Brazilian municipality with >100 000 inhabitants who face challenges for both health problems.
Methods: A total of 399 women were followed up throughout pregnancy using medical records.
Background: Epidemiological emerging evidence shows that human exposure to some nanosized materials present in the environment would contribute to the onset and/or progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The cellular and molecular mechanisms whereby nanoparticles would exert some adverse effects towards neurons and take part in AD pathology are nevertheless unknown.
Results: Here, we provide the prime evidence that titanium dioxide (TiO) and carbon black (CB) nanoparticles (NPs) bind the cellular form of the prion protein (PrP), a plasma membrane protein well known for its implication in prion diseases and prion-like diseases, such as AD.

The emergence and re-emergence of bacterial strains resistant to multiple drugs represent a global health threat, and the search for novel biological targets is a worldwide concern. AhpC are enzymes involved in bacterial redox homeostasis by metabolizing diverse kinds of hydroperoxides. In pathogenic bacteria, AhpC are related to several functions, as some isoforms are characterized as virulence factors.
