Context: Autoimmune atrophic gastritis (AAG) is a frequently underdiagnosed disease due to its broad-spectrum clinical presentation. The diagnosis is based on histological confirmation of corpus-restricted metaplastic chronic atrophic gastritis.

Objective: To thoroughly describe the histological features of a European cohort of AAG patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on a 65-year-old male patient with a rare case of primary cutaneous acral CD8-positive lymphoproliferative disorder, presenting as a lesion in the right thigh rather than the usual acral locations.
  • The lesion, measuring 2.5 cm, showed medium-sized atypical lymphocytes expressing CD3, CD8, and TIA-1, along with CD68 positivity, indicating a specific type of lymphocytic infiltration.
  • During follow-up, the patient developed a recurrence in the abdomen, highlighting the importance of recognizing this condition to distinguish it from more aggressive T-cell lymphomas that may have similar marker expressions.

The identification of mitotic figures is essential for the diagnosis, grading, and classification of various different tumors. Despite its importance, there is a paucity of literature reporting the consistency in interpreting mitotic figures among pathologists. This study leverages publicly accessible datasets and social media to recruit an international group of pathologists to score an image database of more than 1000 mitotic figures collectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Biphasic papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) is a rare subtype of PRCC with less than 70 reported cases, characterized by a biphasic morphology that includes squamoid features.
  • This study analyzed 17 cases of biphasic PRCC, finding that the average age was 62 years, with a slight male predominance, and most tumors were confined to the kidney, though a few exhibited metastasis.
  • Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that biphasic PRCC tumors show strong expression of specific markers like PAX8 and keratin 7, and about a third of cases had mutations in the MET gene, indicating a potential for further research into their molecular characteristics and behavior.

The presence of syncytial-type multinucleated giant tumor cells with emperipolesis in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is uncommon, with only 31 cumulative published cases to date. After a rereview of 125 clear cell RCC of World Health Organization/International Society of Urological Pathology grade 3 or 4, 14 clear cell RCCs with admixed syncytial-type giant cells (to our knowledge, the largest series to date) were found with a mean patient age of 67 years and with no sex difference (M = 7, F = 7). Mean tumor size was 7.

To elucidate the spectrum of metastatic solid tumors to the testis and their clinicopathologic features. The databases and files of 26 pathology departments from 9 countries on 3 continents were surveyed to identify metastatic solid tumors to the testis and to characterize their clinicopathologic features in detail. We compiled a series of 157 cases of metastatic solid tumors that secondarily involved the testis.

In some instances, the central scar of renal oncocytoma can demonstrate entrapped cells with unusual morphology and aberrant immunoprofile creating potential diagnostic confusion. Herein, 100 renal oncocytomas containing scars with embedded epithelial cells were identified from 6 institutions, including nephrectomies (64% partial, 36% radical) of similar laterality (left = 51%) and sex distribution (male = 56%), with patient ages ranging from 38 to 86 years (mean = 64.3years) and tumor sizes ranging from 2 to 16 cm (mean = 5.

Article Synopsis
  • Xanthogranulomatous ureteritis is a rare condition marked by foamy histiocytes and chronic inflammation in the ureter.
  • A case study of a 64-year-old man revealed this condition alongside invasive bladder cancer affecting the ureteral wall.
  • The findings underscore the need for medical professionals to recognize this benign process when evaluating ureteral masses in cancer patients.

Aims: To elucidate the spectrum of metastatic tumours to the penis and their clinicopathologic features.

Methods: The databases and files of 22 pathology departments from eight countries on three continents were queried to identify metastatic solid tumours of the penis and to characterize their clinical and pathologic features.

Results: We compiled a series of 109 cases of metastatic solid tumours that secondarily involved the penis.

Context.—: In 2019, papillary renal neoplasm with reverse polarity (PRNRP) was defined as a new neoplasm because it has a predominately tubulopapillary pattern lined by a single layer of cuboidal and eosinophilic cells with apically located round nuclei. Immunohistochemically, this neoplasm showed expression of GATA-3 and L1CAM and had recurrent KRAS mutations.

Mucin-producing urothelial-type adenocarcinoma of the prostate is an extremely rare neoplasm, and its coexistence with acinar adenocarcinoma is exceptional. A 70-year-old man presented with treatment resistant symptoms of urinary obstruction. The serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) level was normal.

Even today, the mortality rate for uveal melanoma (UM) remains very high. In our research, we sought to determine which pathological and clinical features were correlated with the prognosis of UM. BAP1 (BRCA1-Associated Protein 1) gene mutation has been analyzed as one of the strongest predictors for metastasis in UM.

To emphasize the importance of an early diagnosis and an adequate treatment in conjunctival tumors. We present two clinical cases and compare the course of each case: one of conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) which took a positive course, and a fatal case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with intraocular and orbital extension. Epithelial conjunctival malignancies are one of the most prevalent ocular surface tumors.
