Background And Aim: Studies in the literature suggest the severity of COVID-19 may impact on post-COVID sequelae. We retrospectively compared the different patterns of symptoms in relation to the severity of acute COVID-19 in patients visited at our post-COVID rehabilitation unit.

Methods: We compared respiratory, muscular, cognitive, emotional, and health-related-quality-of-life (HRQoL) measures in three groups of post-COVID patients: those who had not required hospitalization for the acute disease, those who had been admitted to a general hospital ward, and those who had been admitted to the ICU.

Background: In laparoscopic surgery, image quality can be severely degraded by surgical smoke caused by the use of tissue dissection tools that reduce the visibility of the observed organs and tissues.

Objective: Improve visibility in laparoscopic surgery by combining image processing techniques based on classical methods and artificial intelligence.

Method: Development of a hybrid approach to eliminating the effects of surgical smoke, based on the combination of the dark channel prior (DCP) method and a pixel-to-pixel neural network architecture known as a generative adversarial network (GAN).

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is likely to have a major impact on society and the economy since the illness is currently infecting a significant number of active workers in the industry and service sectors. The illness can have long-term consequences for patients, affecting their functional capacity and, consequently, their occupational performance. This study analyzed the effects of COVID-19 on occupational health, with a focus on the importance of physical therapy in rehabilitation.

Introduction: Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) experience frequent hemodialysis (HD) complications. Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is a common complication presenting in approximately between 20 and 50% of HD sessions. Available interventions such as volume replacement or vasoactive medications are associated with significant side effects.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) includes pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and results in 100,000 deaths annually in the United States. There is low global VTE awareness, including limited data regarding difficulties patients encounter during their management. This study aims to identify a patient's perspective on VTE gaps of care.

Background: The aim of this study was to define the association of non-adenocarcinoma pancreatic cancer (NACPC) as a risk factor for postoperative cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT).

Methods: We conducted analysis of prospectively collected data of pancreatic cancer surgery. Randomly collected NACPC cases were matched 1:3 to adenocarcinoma cases (ACPC).

Epilithic diatom communities are particularly suitable for the evaluation of freshwater quality. In Ecuador, however, no water quality index includes this biotic parameter. This work is the first attempt in the country to determine the composition of epilithic diatom communities associated with different degrees of eutrophication.

Introduction: Hepatitis C infection is highly prevalent worldwide and has a well-known association with B-cell lymphoid malignancies. Antiviral therapy has successfully decreased the rate of liver cirrhosis and improved the outcome in patients with hepatitis C-associated lymphomas. However, although there are a few case reports of aggressive lymphomas after successful hepatitis C therapy, the mechanism behind this association remains unclear.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on stage 4 present greater risk rates for malignant ventricular arrhythmia events. This study examined patients with CKD in stages 1, 2, 3 and 4, left ventricular dysfunction and automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). Our goal was to record the appropriate therapies, "Anti-tachycardia Therapy Pacing" (ATP) and shock events during the 18 months of follow-up and compare the incidence and severity of these at different stages of CKD, mainly in patients with CKD stage 4 underwent renal sympathetic denervation (RSD) guided by renal nerve stimulation (RNS).

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) commonly occurs in association with chronic kidney disease (CKD), resulting in adverse outcomes. Combining pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and renal sympathetic denervation (RSD) may reduce the recurrence of AF in patients with CKD and hypertension. We considered that RSD could reduce the recurrence of AF in patients with CKD by modulating sympathetic hyperactivity.

Background Or Purpose: Polymorphic premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) are very common, appearing most frequently in patients with hypertension, obesity, sleep apnea, and structural heart disease. Sympathetic hyperactivity plays a critical role in the development, maintenance, and aggravation of ventricular arrhythmias. Recently, the relevance of sympathetic activation in patients with ventricular arrhythmias was reported, and this finding suggested a potential role for catheter-based renal sympathetic denervation in reducing the arrhythmic burden.

Introduction: Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension is defined as a group of diseases characterized by a progressive increase in pulmonary vascular resistance that results in right heart failure and premature death. Although therapies exist to improve hemodynamic instability and symptoms, there is no cure for pulmonary arterial hypertension and it remains a life-threatening condition. A recent study performed in China reported, for the first time, the effect of pulmonary arterial denervation on functional capacity and hemodynamics in patients with refractory idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension.

This article reports the 9-year clinical outcome of the two-stage surgical rehabilitation of a severely atrophic edentulous maxilla with a metal-resin fixed denture supported by implants anchored in the zygomatic bone and the maxilla. After clinical and radiographic examination, zygomatic implants were inserted bilaterally and four standard implants were placed in the anterior region of the maxilla. Six months later, the implants were loaded with a provisional acrylic resin denture, and the definitive implant-supported metal-resin fixed denture was provided 1 year after implant placement.
