A 54-year-old female presented with recurrent, widespread, erythematous, painful plaques, over a 3-month period. Skin biopsy was compatible with interstitial granulomatous dermatitis. Additional investigation revealed hypothyroidism and positive anti-thyroid antibodies.

To study the different patterns of Treponema pallidum distribution in primary and secondary syphilis, 34 biopsy specimens of 8 patients with primary and 26 with secondary syphilis were assessed. Histopathological features, silver stain, and immunohistochemical T pallidum polyclonal antibody expression were investigated. The number and distribution of spirochetes were evaluated, and ultrastructural studies were performed.

Background: Glatiramer acetate has been shown to be effective in reducing the relapse and improving the disability of patients with multiple sclerosis. The most common adverse effects at the injection sites include pain, inflammation, and induration that spontaneously disappear within hours or a few days.

Objective: We sought to characterize the histopathologic findings of localized panniculitis induced by glatiramer acetate at the injection sites.
