The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been a major challenge to be faced in recent years. While adults suffered the highest morbidity and mortality rates of coronavirus disease 2019, children were thought to be exclusively asymptomatic or to present with mild conditions.
