We have developed a single process for producing two key COVID-19 vaccine antigens: SARS-CoV-2 receptor binding domain (RBD) monomer and dimer. These antigens are featured in various COVID-19 vaccine formats, including SOBERANA 01 and the licensed SOBERANA 02, and SOBERANA Plus. Our approach involves expressing RBD (319-541)-His6 in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO)-K1 cells, generating and characterizing oligoclones, and selecting the best RBD-producing clones.

Recombinant human interferon gamma (rhIFN-γ) is a promising molecule for the treatment of several diseases. A pair of conformation-specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against rhIFN-γ was selected from generated hybridoma cell lines to design a sensitive, stability-indicative, sandwich-type ELISA. The main assay parameters were optimized by the checkerboard method for the highest signal-to-noise ratio: assay buffer composition, coating buffer pH and composition, coating temperature-incubation time parameters, and coating mAb concentration and conjugate dilution.

SARS-CoV-2 infection is mediated by the interaction of the spike glycoprotein trimer its receptor-binding domain (RBD) with the host's cellular receptor. Vaccines seek to block this interaction by eliciting neutralizing antibodies, most of which are directed toward the RBD. Many protein subunit vaccines require powerful adjuvants to generate a potent antibody response.

Subunit vaccines based on the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 provide one of the most promising strategies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The detailed characterization of the protein primary structure by mass spectrometry (MS) is mandatory, as described in ICHQ6B guidelines. In this work, several recombinant RBD proteins produced in five expression systems were characterized using a non-conventional protocol known as in-solution buffer-free digestion (BFD).

The major goals of the study were to describe the invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) cases due to erythromycin-resistant serotypes and to evaluate the association between these cases and recent macrolide use in individuals aged over 59 years. We selected cases of IPD reported between 2007 and 2016 in persons aged over 59 years living in the Community of Madrid (CM). We followed the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST).

A peptide from the P0 acidic ribosomal protein (pP0) of ticks conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin from Megathura crenulata has shown to be effective against different tick species when used in host vaccination. Turning this peptide into a commercial anti-tick vaccine will depend on finding the appropriate, technically and economically feasible way to present it to the host immune system. Two conjugates (p64K-CyspP0 and p64K-βAlapP0) were synthesized using the p64K carrier protein from Neisseria meningitidis produced in Escherichia coli, the same cross-linking reagent, and two analogues of pP0.

Controlling the global COVID-19 pandemic depends, among other measures, on developing preventive vaccines at an unprecedented pace. Vaccines approved for use and those in development intend to elicit neutralizing antibodies to block viral sites binding to the host's cellular receptors. Virus infection is mediated by the spike glycoprotein trimer on the virion surface via its receptor binding domain (RBD).

Chemical eustressors induce a eustress state "positive stress" increasing the resistance and improve the plant growth. The potentiality of humic acids (HA) to act as a eustressor has been scarcely explored. The present study aims to evaluate how HA with different structural characteristics induce differently, a eustress state in rice plants through the regulation of photosynthesis.

Quantitative ultrasound techniques have been previously used to evaluate biological hard tissues, characterized by a large acoustic impedance contrast. Here, we are interested in the imaging of experimental data from different test-targets with high acoustic impedance contrast, using the Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) method to solve the inverse problem. This method is based on high-resolution numerical modeling of the forward problem of interaction between waves and medium, considering the full time series.

Background: Acute and agent-specific chronic infections have been associated with increased cardiovascular risk, however data on the burden of common recurrent infections on cardiovascular disease is limited. We hypothesized women with greater exposure to uncomplicated common infectious events had an increased risk of subclinical cardiovascular disease (sCVD).

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, we assessed the relation of recurrent infections and carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) in 1946 disease-free women from the Mexican Teachers' Cohort.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that results in the death of dopaminergic neurons within the substantia nigra pars compacta and the reduction in dopaminergic control over striatal output neurons, leading to a movement disorder most commonly characterized by akinesia or bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor. Also, PD is less frequently depicted by sensory symptoms (pain and tingling), hyposmia, sleep alterations, depression and anxiety, and abnormal executive and working memory related functions. On the other hand, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is an endocrine, paracrine and autocrine hormone with several functions including tissue growth and development, insulin-like activity, proliferation, pro-survival, anti-aging, antioxidant and neuroprotection, among others.

A method for the reconstruction of 2D tomographic images adapted to wood was presented, aiming to perform a nondestructive evaluation of standing trees. The proposed method takes into account the orthotropy property of wood material, performing an iterative process that approximated the curved rays. A slowness function was defined for every cell and a nonlinear regression allowed the mapping of the inner elastic constants.

A desalting step using reversed phase chromatography is a common practice prior to mass spectrometry analysis of proteolytic digests in spite of the detrimental exclusion of the hydrophilic peptides. The detection of such peptides is also important for the complete coverage of protein sequences and the analysis of posttranslational modifications as inquired by regulatory agencies for the commercialization of biotechnological products. The procedure described here, named in-solution buffer-free digestion, simplifies the sample processing and circumvents the above-mentioned limitations by allowing the detection of tryptic hydrophilic peptides via direct ESI-MS analysis.
