Article Synopsis
  • * In this study, plant-derived compounds peruvin and hentriacontane/1-nonacosanol were evaluated for their potential to control the parasite, showing promising results in laboratory tests with 100% larvicidal reduction in their combined form.
  • * However, while effective, both compounds exhibited some health risks in test subjects, highlighting the need for further research to balance efficacy with safety and to determine optimal dosages.

Article Synopsis
  • A blood-feeding parasite affecting grazing sheep leads to significant economic losses, prompting the need for alternative treatments due to drug resistance.
  • The study focuses on the ethyl acetate extract of a specific plant in the Asteraceae family, identifying its anthelmintic properties and exploring the pharmacodynamic interactions of its bioactive compounds.
  • Four compounds (1-nonacosanol, hentriacontane, peruvin, and cinic acid) were isolated, with binary mixtures showing increased lethality against infective larvae, indicating potential synergistic effects among the compounds.

Article Synopsis
  • - Haemonchus contortus is a harmful parasite in sheep that causes economic losses, leading to the need for alternative treatments since it has become resistant to traditional anthelmintics.
  • - The study focuses on extracts from the plant Artemisia cina, which show significant anthelmintic effects, particularly the n-hexane extract, while a new compound named cinic acid was identified from the ethyl acetate extract.
  • - Cinic acid has shown remarkable larvicidal activity against H. contortus, being 256 times more potent than the ethyl acetate extract at its effective concentration (LC50) and significantly enhancing the search for natural antiparasitic solutions.

Pharmacodynamic interactions between plant isolated compounds are important to understand the mode of action of an herbal extract to formulate or create better standardized extracts, phytomedicines, or phytopharmaceuticals. In this work, we propose binary mixtures using a leader compound to found pharmacodynamic interactions in inhibition of the NF-κB/AP-1 pathway using RAW-Blue™ cells. Eight compounds were isolated from , four were new furofuran-type lignans for the species magnolin, eudesmin, sesamin, and kobusin.
