Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates early predictors of non-response to corticosteroid treatment in patients with acute severe autoimmune hepatitis (AS-AIH) and evaluates the effectiveness of the SURFASA severity score.
  • - Conducted as a retrospective multicenter study, it analyzed the outcomes of 26 patients admitted for AS-AIH between 2016 and 2020, reporting a 73% overall survival rate, with notable differences in outcomes based on their response to treatment.
  • - Results showed that both SURFASA and MELD-Na scores are effective predictive tools for identifying non-responders to corticosteroids, with high sensitivity and specificity rates, which could help in the timing for potential liver transplantation.

Article Synopsis
  • Sorafenib is used for treating advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), with an overall survival of about 10 months, but some patients show longer-term survival (LTS) of over 2 years.
  • A study reviewed 77 advanced HCC patients treated with sorafenib to identify factors predicting LTS, finding that 32.5% had LTS with a median survival of 52.3 months.
  • Key predictive factors for LTS included being in Child-Pugh class A and not having portal vein invasion, along with lower alpha-fetoprotein levels for those in Child-Pugh class A.

Background: Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), although rare, is potentially fatal. Few studies have investigated risk factors associated with recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) after a first CVT event of which most are from Caucasian populations. The aim of this study was to evaluate risk factors associated with recurrent VTE after a first CVT event in a South American-population.

The Romualdo Member of the Santana Formation, a lithostatigraphic unit attributed to a marine intrusion, is famous for its preserved fossils in calcareous concretions, which stand out for their diversity and excellent preservation levels. This paper aims to record the first occurrence of the Class Insecta in the Romualdo Member of the Santana Formation of the Araripe Basin, as well as to describe and discuss the paleo-ecological implications of such finding. The first occurrence of the order Orthoptera (family Gryllidae) is presented for this unit.
