This study reports the development and implementation of a straightforward, rapid, and cost-effective voltammetric technique for piroxicam (PIR) detection at nanomolar concentrations in biological and environmental samples. The method involved the use of a screen-printed electrode (SPE) enhanced with a combination of Printex L6 carbon (PL6C) and polyaniline-based activated carbon (PAC) on a chitosan film crosslinked with epichlorohydrin (CTS:EPH). The detection was carried out using square-wave adsorptive anodic stripping voltammetry (SWAdASV) in a 0.

Studies indicate that approximately two-thirds of the rivers of the world are contaminated by pharmaceutical compounds, especially antibiotics and hormones. Data reported by the World Health Organization (WHO, 2015) revealed an increase of 65% in antibiotic consumption between 2000 and 2015, with a worldwide increase of 200% expected up to 2030. Environmental contamination by antibiotics and their metabolites can cause the alteration of bacterial genes, leading to the generation of superbacteria.

Anodic oxidation of recalcitrant organic compounds is still challenging concerning to the anode material and mass transport limitations imposed by the low concentration. In this work, we studied the degradation of a real wastewater containing glyphosate using an electrode of PbO electrodeposited on a three-dimensional matrix of reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC). The high mass transfer rate provided by the RVC/PbO anode is demonstrated.

Lignin-derived carbon is introduced as a promising electrode material for water desalination by using capacitive deionization (CDI). Lignin is a low-cost precursor that is obtained from the cellulose and ethanol industries, and we used carbonization and subsequent KOH activation to obtain highly porous carbon. CDI cells with a pair of lignin-derived carbon electrodes presented an initially high salt adsorption capacity but rapidly lost their beneficial desalination performance.

Porous electrodes have been successfully used for metal electrodeposition from diluted aqueous solution due to their high porosity and specific surface area, which lead to high mass transfer rates. This work studies the mass transfer of copper electrodeposition on reticulated vitreous carbon in a flow reactor without membrane. The flow configuration, otherwise the filter-press electrochemical reactors, was designed in order to minimize the pressure drop.

This work investigates the removal of metal ions from synthetic aqueous effluents using a spouted bed electrochemical reactor whose cathode was composed of 1.0 mm copper particles. Using a Box-Behnken factorial design, the effects of current (I), electrode thickness (L), draught distance (d) and support electrolyte concentration (C(s)) on current efficiency (CE), space-time yield (Y) and energy consumption (EC) were analysed.

The electrochemical performance of pure Ti-Pt/beta-PbO2 electrodes, or doped with Fe and F (together or separately), in the oxidation of simulated wastewaters containing the Blue Reactive 19 dye (BR-19), using a filter-press reactor, was investigated and then compared with that of a boron-doped diamond electrode supported on a niobium substrate (Nb/BDD). The electrooxidation of the dye simulated wastewater (volume of 0.1 l, with a BR-19 initial concentration of 25 mg l(-1)) was carried out under the following conditions: current density of 50 mA cm(-2), volume flow rate of 2.
