The Hadlock Method Is Superior to Newer Methods for the Prediction of the Birth Weight Percentile.

Objectives: To compare a traditional ultrasound (US) method for estimated fetal weight (EFW) calculation and fetal growth restriction diagnosis with 2 newer methods for the prediction of small for gestational age (SGA) at birth.

Methods: We reviewed deliveries at our institution from January 1, 2013, to March 31, 2017. Singleton, nonanomalous, well-dated fetuses with a US examination within 2 weeks of delivery were included.

Fetal surveillance in late pregnancy and during labor.

During early gestation, drugs have teratogenic effects and can be associated with structural anomalies in the fetus. Substance abuse can also have physiologic effects on the mother and fetus, including decreased uterine blood flow, increased vascular resistance, and an increase in fetal blood pressure. Women at increased risk for stillbirth should undergo antepartum fetal surveillance initiated at 32 weeks of gestation.

Access, quality and costs of prenatal diagnosis.

The background risk of birth defects ranges from 2 to 5%. These birth defects are responsible for 30% of all admissions to pediatric hospitals and are responsible for a large proportion of neonatal and infant deaths. Medicine and Genetics have taken giant steps in their ability to detect and treat genetic disorders in utero.

Extended field of view sonography: a useful tool in the diagnosis and management of abdominal pregnancy.

Diagnosis of abdominal pregnancy continues to be a challenge, resulting in delays in diagnosis and decision making. We report 2 cases of abdominal pregnancy for which extended field of view sonography contributed to both diagnosis and management. The shortcomings of MRI with respect to localizing the site of placental attachment are also discussed.

Three-dimensional transvaginal sonography of interstitial pregnancy.

We describe the case of a 33-year-old pregnant woman, gravida 1 para 0, who was referred to us with a presumptive diagnosis of an interstitial pregnancy. The patient had had amenorrhea for 7 weeks and had previously undergone myomectomy. Two-dimensional sonographic examination revealed a gestational sac located outside the uterine cavity but could not define its exact anatomic position.
