Eculizumab therapy and complement regulation in a case of resistant catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome.

Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) is a life-threatening form of antiphospholipid syndrome characterised by diffuse arterial and venous thrombosis, in the presence of positive antiphospholipid antibodies. The multiple sites of thrombosis in small, medium and large vessels progress to multiorgan failure, accounting for the high mortality rate associated with CAPS. Unregulated complement activation is increasingly recognised as critical to the pathogenesis of CAPS.

Recommendations for weight management in osteoarthritis: A systematic review of clinical practice guidelines.

Objective: While targeting obesity is central to osteoarthritis management, recent meta-analyses demonstrate only modest effects of weight loss on symptoms, and little on structure. The World Health Organisation recommends that effective management of obesity include prevention of weight gain, weight maintenance and weight loss. Therefore, we systematically reviewed the recommendations and approaches for management of obesity in clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for osteoarthritis.

Interprofessional learning about medication safety.

Background: Safe medication management requires collaboration between health professionals.

Approach: A mixed academic and clinician team co-designed and co-facilitated a 2-h interprofessional medication safety workshop, covering medication history taking, perioperative medication management, discharge planning, incident review and dosing and administration calculations. Three workshop sessions were delivered across three sites during September 2019 at a large metropolitan healthcare network.
