Background: Congenital lung malformations (CLMs) refer to structural abnormalities of the lungs that occur during fetal development. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) constitute a group of zinc-dependent enzymes, with certain members of this family playing pivotal roles in the remodeling of the lungs both prenatally and postnatally. This study aimed to explore expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-7, and MMP-9 in CLMs which are recognized as pivotal contributors to their clinical pathology.

Introduction: The increasing prevalence of Gram-negative bloodstream infections in pediatric patients poses significant treatment challenges, particularly from multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains. Despite advances in medical care, mortality from bloodstream infections remains a concern. Our study aims to understand pediatric patients` demographics, clinical conditions, and microorganisms causing Gram-negative infections, as well as identify factors affecting treatment outcomes and mortality.

We describe detection of SAT2 topotype XIV foot-and-mouth disease viruses in western Asia during 2022-2023. Sequences show the viruses originated in eastern Africa and were introduced into western Asia on >1 occasion. The rapid spread in naive animals highlights risks for onward transmission and potential endemicity in Asia.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the special needs reports for children (SNRC) in terms of sociodemographic characteristics, diagnoses, and areas of special needs in the five years from 2019, when special health boards for children were established with the new diagnostic and evaluation criteria.

Methods: This descriptive study was conducted by retrospectively reviewing the board evaluation reports of children aged 0-18 years who applied to Batman Training and Research Hospital SNRC Health Board between March 2019 and March 2024. The study included 420 children for whom all the data in the evaluation reports could be accessed.

Introduction: Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive bacillus that causes severe infections mainly in newborns, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, and elderly. In this report, we present a case of immune dysregulation that presented with invasive Listeria infection despite the absence of these risk factors.

Case: A previously healthy 5-year-old girl developed L.

Turner syndrome is the most common sex chromosomal abnormality in about 1:2000-2500 live female births. While short stature and delayed puberty are the most common presentations of patients, atypical findings can also be seen. In this article, we present the Turner twins, who were diagnosed during inguinal hernia surgery when bilateral uterus and ovaries were found within the hernia sac.

Background: Over the past decades, the analysis metabolic connectivity patterns has received significant attention in exploring the underlying mechanism of human behaviors, and the neural underpinnings of brain neurological disorders. Brain network can be considered a powerful tool and play an important role in the analysis and understanding of brain metabolic patterns. With the advantages and emergence of metabolic-based network analysis, this study aims to systematically review how brain properties, under various conditions, can be studied using Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography (FDG-PET) images and graph theory, as well as applications of this approach.

Introduction: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic syndrome characterised by widespread pain, fatigue, and symptoms such as sleep disturbances, cognitive impairment, and mood disorders. FM prevalence is notably higher among systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients compared with the general population, often leading to diagnostic challenges. Misinterpreting FM as SLE activity can result in overtreatment.

Objective: It is well-known that children who suffer from obesity and asthma may also have exercise-induced bronchospasm. Exhaled nitric oxide is an indicator of airway inflammation, and could be affected by exercise. This study looked at how exercise, which is a typical cause of acute airway obstruction, affects the levels of FeNO and spirometric parameters in obese and asthmatic children.

Objective: Tuberculosis (TB) is a public health problem. This study aimed to determine the growth rates and drug susceptibility levels of patients with complex (MTC) growth in cultures obtained and to compare the results with the growth rates and drug susceptibility levels found in our country and other countries. It also aimed to evaluate the results of supplementing classical methods such as Lowenstein-Jensen (LJ) with liquid TK MEDIUM and to determine the relationship between the growth rates obtained with both methods.

Pseudohypoaldosteronism (PHA) is a rare disorder that, if not promptly recognized and treated, can lead to life-threatening hyperkalemia resulting in cardiac arrest and death. Systemic PHA is caused by variants that deactivate the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) subunits. Management is challenging due to high-dose oral replacement therapy, and patients with systemic PHA require lifelong treatment.

Intra-articular glucocorticoid injections are effective in controlling inflammation and pain in arthritides but restricted by short duration of action and risk of joint degeneration. Controlled drug release using biocompatible hydrogels offers a unique solution, but limitations of in situ gelation restrict their application. Gellan sheared hydrogels (GSHs) retain the advantages of hydrogels, however their unique microstructures lend themselves to intra-articular application - capable of shear thinning under force but restructuring at rest to enhance residence.

Background: In countries with low rates of deceased donor solid organ transplantations, live-donor liver transplantation is the preferred definitive treatment for children and adults with end-stage liver disease. However, it is known that a remarkable number of potential living liver donors are rejected due to ABO incompatibility, suboptimal liver mass, or anatomical features. Paired exchange liver transplantation (PELT) practice emerged to overcome these obstacles.
