Article Synopsis
  • - This study evaluated the recovery of ovarian function and fertility in ewes after either transplanting or cryopreserving (vitrifying) whole ovaries at a veterinary school in France.
  • - Two groups of ewes were compared: one underwent immediate transplantation of the ovary, while the other had their ovary frozen and then thawed before transplantation.
  • - Results showed that although the transplantation was successful for both groups, the follicle survival rate was only 6% in the immediate transplant group, and none survived in the vitrified group, despite some ewes recovering endocrine function and giving birth to lambs.
