Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and diagnostic accuracy of screening for coeliac disease by rapid detection of IgA antibodies to tissue transglutaminase performed in primary care.
Design: District nurses screened 6 year old children using rapid antibody testing of finger prick blood. They also collected capillary blood samples for laboratory determination of IgA and IgG antibodies to endomysium and IgA antibodies to tissue transglutaminase.
The prevalence of thyroid microcarcinomas found at autopsies is 100-1000 times higher than in clinical cancer. The epidemiological and histological characteristics of thyroid microcarcinomas in consecutive series of autopsies performed in two areas of different iodine intake were investigated. Iodine deficient (ID) area: n = 222 (M = 109, F = 113), median age: 74-76 years, median iodine excretion (MIE) of nursing home residents from this area: 70 microg/g creatinine.

The patients was admitted in a serious state of malnutrition due to a Y-shaped fistula formation between the too long blind end of the jejunotransversostomy and the first part of the jejunum. The blind end was resected and the 2 holes on the jejunum was closed by one layer wire stitches.

The authors report a case of a 51 year old man, who presented a typical malignant growth in his colostomy opening, created 24 years before due to a rectal lesion considered as an inoperable cancer, though not proved histologically.
