In this work, roof felts are considered. Special attention is paid to the mechanical properties and self-healing (SH) phenomena under elevated temperatures. The results of the heating and strength tests for the entire range of material work, from the first load to sample breaking, are shown with respect to the angle of reinforcement relative to the longitudinal axis of the sample and different ways of breaking the continuity of the material.

In this work, four representatives of roofing felts are under consideration. Special attention is paid to the mechanical behaviour under the tensile load of the samples. The results of strength tests for the entire range of material work, from the first load to sample breaking, are shown with respect to a specific direction of sample cutting.

In many applications that involve large sequence datasets, all what is needed is calculating the identity scores (percentage of identical nucleotides in an optimal alignment-including gaps-of two sequences); there is no need for visualizing how every two sequences are aligned.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSequence clustering is a fundamental step in analyzing DNA sequences. Widely-used software tools for sequence clustering utilize greedy approaches that are not guaranteed to produce the best results. These tools are sensitive to one parameter that determines the similarity among sequences in a cluster.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMotivation: Since the dawn of the bioinformatics field, sequence alignment scores have been the main method for comparing sequences. However, alignment algorithms are quadratic, requiring long execution time. As alternatives, scientists have developed tens of alignment-free statistics for measuring the similarity between two sequences.

We report a case of giant proliferating pilomatricoma on the forearm of a 66-year-old woman. This tumour was unusually large and the presence of ulceration and rapid growth raised clinical suspicion of malignancy.

Background: There is an increasing trend towards early mobilisation post-split skin grafting of the lower limbs. This study was performed to determine if early mobilisation impacts negatively on graft healing and patient morbidity.
Methods: A retrospective review of 48 cases of lower limb split skin grafts performed by the plastic surgery department at Royal Perth Hospital was undertaken.
Closed digital artery injury with secondary acute ischemia is a rare phenomenon. The most common injury pattern involves a crush mechanism with a resultant transverse fracture in proximity to the interphalangeal joints. Secondary acute ischemia requires urgent surgical exploration with digital arterial repair to avoid necrosis and associated decreased hand function.

Previous surgical or radioiodine treatment of hyperthyroidism is linked to the development of localized myxedema, as is prior trauma or surgery. We present the first known case of localized foot myxedema on a background of Graves disease following a traumatic and surgical precipitant and compare and discuss similar cases found in a literature review.

The skull was characterised by means of measurements with reference to 60 skulls of contemporary Bulgarians. Thus the normalised data and values of natural Perkal's indices were obtained.

The authors described human skull with bilateral gnathoschisis and palatoschisis belonging to adult female from the Tchuktchi tribe (18-19 century). An attempt to determine a degree of morphological deviations caused by this defect has been made in comparison to the normal skulls of the control series. The described skull was smaller, particularly in the middle facial region.

Thus the vocational selection for the posts in this industry should particularly take into account the health status of the applying youths. The subjects of the study were 35 girls from Textile Technical College and 42 girls from Grammar School (control group).

Somatic traits have been investigated for 4 years, while aerobic capacity and motor efficiency have been studied for 3 years. The preliminary selection was noticed in girls--candidates to technical college and grammar school.
