Implant documentation in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) must be both accurate and comprehensive. A new system enables surgeons to complete a secure, web-based operative report for each surgery. This study evaluated implant documentation using this system and hypothesized that it would be as reliable as the current standard.

Aims: More than 50% of neuroblastomas (NBs) present with haematogenous and/or lymphatic metastasis; however, little is known about the clinicopathological significance in NBs of the key lymphangiogenesis growth factors vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C and VEGF-D and the receptor VEGFR-3.

Methods And Results: Ninety-three NBs and nine ganglioneuromas (GNs) were immunostained for VEGF-C, VEGF-D and VEGFR-3. VEGF-C and VEGF-D were present in 76% and 82% of the NBs, respectively.

Articular cartilage lesions of the distal femur and patella are common. To provide an accurate diagnosis of a clinically symptomatic cartilage lesion and subsequent appropriate planning for potential treatment options, a proper staging is required. This includes clinical exam, radiographic imaging as well as arthroscopy.

Unlabelled: Thioredoxin domain containing protein 5 (TXNDC5) is a member of the thioredoxin (Trx) domain-containing family of proteins that have been implicated in cancer progression. The expression of TXNDC5 in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) tumours compared to patient-matched normal lung tissue was determined and cell line models were used to determine if expression was regulated by hypoxia.

Patients And Methods: Samples of tumour and normal lung tissue were taken during surgery and immediately frozen.

Stimuli-responsive materials capable of manifesting physical changes in response to environmental signals are valuable tools for use in a variety of biomedical applications. Herein we describe one such smart glucose-responsive hydrogel material prepared by immobilizing the glucose/galactose binding protein within an acrylamide hydrogel network. This hydrogel demonstrates a quantitative "accordion"-like dynamic response in the presence of glucose.

Background: It is uncertain whether biochemical markers of catecholamine secretion in patients with phaeochromocytoma correlate with tumour ultrastructure granule morphology.

Methods: Fifteen patients with an adrenal phaeochromocytoma (n=13) or paraganglioma (n=2) (three men, 12 women; age 17-79 years) were studied. Catecholamine secretion was estimated by measuring urinary levels of free noradrenaline, adrenaline and dopamine.

Acupuncture is a treatment modality that is particularly applicable for homeless clients because of its low cost and portability as well as because of its effectiveness in treating the symptomatology of pain syndromes, substance abuse, and human immunodeficiency virus infection. A two-part descriptive study was conducted to determine the response to acupuncture of homeless persons at the Chicago Health Outreach Clinic. Part 1 of the study consisted of a retrospective chart review of 45 patients to assess acupuncture treatment effectiveness.
