Trachoma: an underdiagnosed disease revealed by a survey carried out at Jaú, São Paulo.

Background: Trachoma is a notifiable disease in the state of São Paulo- Brazil. However, in Jaú, a municipality located in this state, in the last 10 years there are no records of cases. This study purpose is to assess if there are cases of inflammatory trachoma in schoolchildren aged 1 to 9 years in the municipality of Jaú as well if it is possible to detect clusters areas of the disease to establish elimination programs.

Primary lacrimal gland sebaceous carcinoma - case presentation and literature review.

Primary sebaceous carcinoma of the lacrimal gland (PSCLG) is the rarest lacrimal gland (LG) tumor, often belatedly diagnosed, worsening the prognosis. We present a 68-year-old man with a large, indurated mass in the left orbital outer quadrant, visible at the conjunctival upper temporal fornix, extending to the lower fornix, with left gaze restriction. The lesion was not related to the eyelid or other periocular tissues.

[Prevalence of trachoma among school children in Bauru: São Paulo State, Brazil].

Purpose: A survey was carried out with schoolchildren in Bauru, São Paulo State. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of trachoma.

Methods: One thousand, seven hundred and forty-nine children from 6 to 14 years old were examined during the year of 2005.

[2-octyl-cyanoacrylate in rabbit anophthalmic cavity reconstruction].

Purpose: To evaluate fixation by a bioadhesive of the external ocular muscles to the porous polyethylene spheres.

Methods: An experimental study was performed using eight white rabbits that underwent right eye enucleation with placement of 12 mm spheres of porous polyethylene. The rectus muscles (superior and inferior) were attached to the implant with a bioadhesive (2-octyl-cyanoacrylate) applied to the inferior side of the external muscles.

[Gel and porous polyethylene implants in the rabbit anophthalmic cavity].

Purpose: To evaluate porous polyethylene implants as compared to solid and gel spheres in anophthalmic cavities.

Methods: Thirty-six white rabbits underwent a right eye enucleation with placement of 12 mm of porous (18 animals) or gel (18 animals) polyethylene spheres. The animals were submitted to weekly clinical evaluation.
