Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on how radiofrequency (RF) ablation affects atrial electrograms in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, specifically looking at local tissue damage and changes in signal strength following the procedure.
  • Twelve patients underwent RF ablation, and high-density mapping revealed that the bipolar voltages of atrial electrograms decreased significantly immediately after the procedure and continued to drop after 30 minutes, with the greatest reductions occurring near the site of the lesion.
  • The results indicated that while acute voltage reductions were mainly due to thermal injury, the delayed changes were likely caused by swelling (oedema) extending the impact beyond the immediate area of the lesion.

This paper analyzes the effect of caesium (Cs) concentration on seed germination, seedling growth, root uptake, and leaf uptake of Lactuca sativa to understand the potential transfer of the metal from contaminated soil to humans through the food chain. The results of germination experiments show that seed germination and seedling growth strongly depend on increasing Cs concentration, with a decrease in the number of germinated seeds compared to the control up to 13.6% and a reduction in seedling growth up to 10.

The effect of potassium (K) concentration gradient on stable caesium (Cs) uptake by Calla palustris was studied under hydroponic conditions after eight-day exposure in a greenhouse experiment. The plants were exposed to two different concentrations of Cs (provided as 0.5 and 1 mM CsCl) and five different concentrations of K (provided as KSO in 0.

Article Synopsis
  • Left atrial (LA) enlargement is linked to worse outcomes after catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF), but traditional 2D-echocardiography often underestimates LA volume (LAV).
  • A study involving 535 patients examined how different 2D-echocardiographic measures of LA size correlated with actual LAV measured by 3D mapping, revealing significant discrepancies among these methods.
  • By adjusting 2D-echocardiographic indices for factors like age, gender, AF type, and structural heart disease, the accuracy of LAV measurements can be notably enhanced.

Purpose: Atrioventricular (AV) conduction turbulence, biphasic dromotropic response of AV node to single ventricular premature contraction (VPC), consists of early shortening and later prolongation of AV conduction intervals due to the direct electrophysiological mechanisms and perturbation in autonomic modulation. We investigated the acute effect of radiofrequency catheter ablation of slow pathway on AV turbulence.

Methods: The electrophysiological study was performed in 18 patients (7 men, mean age 49 ± 15 years) undergoing catheter ablation for AV nodal reentrant tachycardia.
