Objectives: Many negative randomized controlled trials (RCTs) report spin in their conclusions to highlight the benefits of the experimental arm, which could correspond to a noninferiority (NI) objective. We aimed to evaluate whether some negative superiority RCTs comparing 2 active interventions could correspond to an NI situation and to explore associated trial characteristics.

Study Design And Setting: We searched PubMed for superiority RCTs comparing 2 active interventions with non-statistically significant results for the primary outcome that were published in 2021 in the 5 journals with the highest impact factor in each medical specialty.

Background: Inhaled sedation is increasing in ICUs, with active carbon filters (ACFs) commonly used for evacuating halogenated gases. However, the potential benefits of a waste anesthetic gas system (WAGS) similar to the ones used in operating rooms should be explored. To limit the suction over the flow sensor where the WAGS is connected on ICU ventilators, an anesthetic gas receiving system (AGRS) is required, constituting with the WAGS an active gas receiving and scavenging system (AGRSS).

Background: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is frequent. While two network meta-analyses assessed the impact of pharmacological interventions to prevent CSA-AKI, none focused on non-pharmacological interventions. We aim to assess the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions to reduce the incidence of CSA-AKI.

Purpose: To evaluate the heterogeneity in the definition of delirium in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) included in meta-analyses of delirium in intensive care units (ICUs) and to explore whether intervention effect depends on the definition used.

Methods: We searched PubMed for meta-analyses including RCTs evaluating prevention or treatment strategies of delirium in ICU. The definition of delirium was collected from RCTs and classified as validated (DSM criteria, CAM-ICU, ICDSC, NEECHAM, DRS-R98) or non-validated (non-validated scales, set of symptoms, physician appreciation or not reported).
