Objective: Renal Tumor biopsy (RTB) can assist clinicians in determining the most suitable approach for treatment of renal cancer. However, RTB's limitations in accurately determining histology and grading have hindered its broader adoption and data on the concordance rate between RTB results and final pathology after surgery are unavailable. Therefore, we aimed to develop a machine learning algorithm to optimize RTB technique and to investigate the degree of concordance between RTB and surgical pathology reports.

Residual nonvisible bladder cancer after proper treatment caused by technological and therapeutic limitations is responsible for tumor relapse and progression. This study aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of a solution for simultaneous detection and treatment of bladder cancer lesions smaller than one millimeter. The α5β1 integrin was identified as a specific marker in 81% of human high-grade nonmuscle invasive bladder cancers and used as a target for the delivery of targeted gold nanorods (GNRs).

Predicting failure initiation in nonlinear composite materials, often referred to as metamaterials, is a fundamental challenge in nonlinear solid mechanics. Microstructural failure mechanisms encompass fracture, decohesion, cavitation, compression-induced contact and instabilities, affecting their unconventional static and dynamic performances. To fully take advantage of these materials, especially in extreme applications, it is imperative to predict their nonlinear behaviour using reliable, accurate and computationally efficient numerical methodologies.

Background: Induction followed by 1 year maintenance instillation of intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is the standard treatment for intermediate-risk (IR) nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) patients. Few data exist on the efficacy of Mitomycin C (MMC) instillation in this setting.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 226 IR-NMIBC patients classified by the International Bladder Cancer Group (IBCG) and 250 IR-NMIBC intravescical treatment-naïve patients classified by the European Association of Urology (EAU).

Unruptured intracranial aneurysms are common in the general population, and many uncertainties remain when predicting rupture risks and treatment outcomes. One of the cutting-edge tools used to investigate this condition is computational fluid dynamics (CFD). However, CFD is not yet mature enough to guide the clinical management of this disease.

Fibrillar collagen accumulation emerges as a promising biomarker in several diseases, such as desmoplastic tumors and unstable atherosclerotic plaque. Gold nanorods (GNRs) hold great potential as contrast agents in high-resolution, biomedically safe, and non-invasive photoacoustic imaging (PAI). This study presents the design and characterization of a specialized imaging tool which exploits GNR assisted targeted photoacoustic imaging that is tailored for the identification of fibrillar collagen.

Background And Objective: No clear-cut markers for predicting positive sperm retrieval (+SR) at microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) have been identified thus far. Our aim was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the ability of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), inhibin B (InhB), and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) to predict +SR in men with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) undergoing mTESE.

Methods: We performed a search in the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis statement.

Localized prostate cancer is frequently composed of multiple spatially distinct tumors with significant inter- and intra-tumoral molecular heterogeneity. This genomic diversity gives rise to many competing clones that may drive the biological trajectory of the disease. Previous large-scale sequencing efforts have focused on the evolutionary process in metastatic prostate cancer, revealing a potential clonal progression to castration resistance.

Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the major subtype of RCC, is frequently diagnosed at late/metastatic stage with 13% 5-year disease-free survival. Functional inactivation of the wild-type p53 protein is implicated in ccRCC therapy resistance, but the detailed mechanisms of p53 malfunction are still poorly characterized. Thus, a better understanding of the mechanisms of disease progression and therapy resistance is required.

Introduction: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), the most common primary glomerular disease leading to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), is characterized by podocyte injury and depletion, whereas minimal change disease (MCD) has better outcomes despite podocyte injury. Identifying mechanisms capable of preventing podocytopenia during injury could transform FSGS to an "MCD-like" state. Preclinical data have reported conversion of an MCD-like injury to one with podocytopenia and FSGS by inhibition of AMP-kinase (AMPK) in podocytes.

The relationship between passive immunity and the development of false layer syndrome (FLS) and its associated lesions was investigated in this study by comparing the long-term reproductive effects of an infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) DMV/1639 wild-type strain and the GA08 vaccine in birds with and without maternal antibodies. There was a clear protective effect provided by maternal antibodies against both the early vaccination and challenge. It was also observed that vaccination at an early age, in the absence of maternal antibodies, can induce reproductive issues, such as reduced egg production and FLS-associated lesions (e.

Aims: The distinction of high-grade prostate cancer (PCa) from poorly differentiated urothelial carcinoma (UC) can be somewhat challenging on clinical and morphological grounds alone, yet it is of great importance for prognostication and choice of treatment. GATA3 is a useful immunohistochemical marker to confirm urothelial origin. However, recent works report strong GATA3 immunoexpression in primary high-grade PCa.

Background: Early detection and removal of bladder cancer in patients is crucial to prevent tumor recurrence and progression. Because current imaging techniques may fail to detect small lesions of in situ carcinomas, patients with bladder cancer often relapse after initial diagnosis, thereby requiring frequent follow-up and treatments.

Results: In an attempt to obtain a sensitive and high-resolution imaging modality for bladder cancer, we have developed a photoacoustic imaging approach based on the use of PEGylated gold nanorods (GNRs) as a contrast agent, functionalized with the peptide cyclic [CphgisoDGRG] (Iso4), a selective ligand of α5β1 integrin expressed by bladder cancer cells.
