Supercapacitors have attracted considerable attention due to their advantages, including being lightweight and having rapid charge-discharge, a good rate capability, and high cyclic stability. Electrodes are one of the most important factors influencing the performance of supercapacitors. Herein, a three-dimensional network of rough and porous micropebbles of CeCuSi has been prepared using a one-step procedure and tested for the first time as a supercapacitor electrode.

Article Synopsis
  • SARS-CoV-2 infection can lead to long-term health issues known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) or long COVID, which can manifest as ongoing or new symptoms after the initial infection.
  • The RECOVER-Adult study aims to better understand PASC by investigating its prevalence, symptoms, risk factors, and underlying biological mechanisms through a large cohort of nearly 15,000 adults.
  • Participants will provide ongoing data through questionnaires, physical examinations, and biological samples over several months, helping researchers gather critical insights into the complexities of long COVID.

Importance: SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with persistent, relapsing, or new symptoms or other health effects occurring after acute infection, termed postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), also known as long COVID. Characterizing PASC requires analysis of prospectively and uniformly collected data from diverse uninfected and infected individuals.

Objective: To develop a definition of PASC using self-reported symptoms and describe PASC frequencies across cohorts, vaccination status, and number of infections.

Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an orthopaedic procedure that improves the quality of life in patients suffering from hip pain related to osteoarthritis, fractures, and avascular osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Different surgical approaches can be used for THA leading to different recovery times. Because of the lowering medium age of people undergoing THA, it is important to focus on the earlier return of physiological activity after surgery.

Introduction: Tension pneumothorax is a rare and life-threatening situation in neonates requiring immediate intervention through thoracentesis. Significant complications can arise while performing thoracentesis in the case of inadequate skill level or exposure to the condition. Although simulation-based training (SBT) has proven to be effective in learning surgical skills, training sessions are long, subjective, and expensive, because of which they cannot be held regularly.

The attention towards active films has increased due to consumer demand for high-quality foods without chemical additives. Active biopolymer-based films have shown great potential for active films by impacting food safety, acting as the carriers of various natural antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds, and decreasing environmental pollution from petrol-derived packaging materials. However, there is a wide range of challenges concerning the different characteristics of biopolymers and plasticizers, often hygroscopic/hydrophilic, compared to numerous lipophilic bioactive compounds.

Processed meat products have been increasingly consumed, a highlight being dried-cured coppa, commonly purchased sliced, making it more susceptible to bacterial deterioration and lipid oxidation. The aim of this work was to produce and apply bi-layers films based on gelatin (in both layers) with addition of nisin and/or Pitanga leaf hydroethanolic extract (PLHE) only in the food contact thinner layer, in order to evaluate their effect on the refrigerated storage of sliced dried-cured coppa. Dried-cured coppa slices covered with active films were vacuum-packaged and stored under refrigeration for 120 days.

Urinary catheterization is one of the most widely taught procedures in the medical field. Current simulation-based training methods allow the students to be trained on non-realistic mannequins that do not adequately develop their psychomotor skills. This lack of proper training translates into increased likelihood of the medical professional causing damage to the patients' urethra in the form of false passages when faced with a difficult catheterization.
