Objectives: To critically evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions in improving global function, quality of life and fatigue in individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Design: Systematic review and meta-analyses.

Data Sources: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library (CENTRAL) and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) were searched through 31 January 2023.

Physical therapy for muscle strengthening in individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: A protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: People with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) can present initially muscle weakness, which is a debilitating symptom that may be improved by engaging in muscle strengthening activities. Currently, the effects of motor interventions for muscle strengthening in people with ALS are unclear. This review intends to analyze the effects of motor interventions for muscle strengthening in individuals with ALS.

The Parasitemia has Contributed to the Severity of Cases of Visceral Leishmaniasis.

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) occurs due to the evolution, virulence, and adaptation of , vector biology, host immune system evasion, and reservoir hosts. Parasitemia can be involved as a warning regarding the clinical severity of VL The present study aims to evaluate the relationship between parasitemia and the prognosis of individuals with VL. Blood and bone marrow samples from individuals with VL were analyzed to identify parasite and quantify or measure parasite burden.

Social rhythm and implications on functionality of patients after stroke.

The study aimed to assess the regularity, intensity, frequency, and period of activities comprising social rhythm and associate them with the functionality of stroke patients. The sample consisted of 73 patients (41 men and 32 women) with a mean age of 60 years (±10). Social rhythm was assessed by Social Rhythm Metric (SRM) and Activity Level Index (ALI).

Oocyte competence and gene expression in parthenogenetic produced embryos from repeat breeder and normally fertile buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) raised in sub-humid tropical climate.

The reproductive management of the buffalo species still faces several unresolved problems, which directly affect the productivity of the herd, one of them being the presence of repeat breeder females. Given this scenario, this study aimed to verify the developmental competence of oocytes obtained from repeat breeder females and submitted to parthenogenetic activation. In addition, embryo gene expression was compared to normally fertile females.

Factors affecting the embryo production in buffalo (): A review.

Under natural and well-managed conditions, the buffalo has good reproductive and productive indices. However, embryo production (IVEP) has been used commercially to maximise the number of elite animals. In this species, several factors (donor management, culture medium, semen, conditions, embryo transfer) still affect the IVEP results.

Assessing bone mineral density in children and adolescents living with HIV and on treatment with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate: a systematic review.

Objective: To investigate the impact of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate on bone mineral density and bone mineral content in children and adolescents infected with the human immunodeficiency virus.

Data Source: The search procedure was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Statement. The search was carried out until April 2022 in Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), Embase, Cochrane Central, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Web of Science, Scopus, and MedRxiv.

The Antioxidant and Immunomodulatory Potential of Leaf Extracts.

Oxidative stress has been associated with different diseases, and different medicinal plants have been used to treat or prevent this condition. The leaf ethanolic extract (EE) and aqueous extract (AE) from have previously been characterized to have antioxidant potential in vitro and in vivo. In this study, we worked with EE and AE and two partition phases, AF (ethyl acetate) and BF (butanol), from AE extract.

The anti-infective crotalicidin peptide analog RhoB-Ctn[1-9] is harmless to bovine oocytes and able to induce parthenogenesis in vitro.

Crotalicidin is a cathelicidin-related anti-infective (antimicrobial) peptide expressed in the venom glands of the South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus. Congener peptides of crotalicidin, named vipericidins, are found in other pit vipers inhabiting South America. Crotalicidin is active against bacteria and pathogenic yeasts and has anti-proliferative activity for some cancer cells.

Experiences of siblings of children with chronic diseases revealed by the dramatic therapeutic play.

Objective: To understand, through dramatic therapeutic play, the experiences of siblings of children with chronic diseases.

Method: Phenomenological study, in the light of Heideggerian philosophical framework, conducted with 12 siblings of children with chronic diseases, aged between three and 11 years, accompanied in a public teaching hospital in the countryside of the state of São Paulo. The phenomenological interviews were audio-recorded and mediated by sessions of dramatic therapeutic play; later, interpreted from the Heideggerianphilosophical framework and thematic literature.

Does the addition of follicular fluid in the in vitro maturation medium increase the oocyte maturation and embryo production in alpacas?

In alpacas (Vicugna pacos), the high cost of in vitro embryo production is also a consequence of the use of several substances in the culture medium. In addition, embryo production rates in this species are still considered low. Thus, in attempt to reduce the cost and to improve the in vitro embryo production rates, this study evaluates the effect of adding follicular fluid (FF) in the in vitro maturation medium on oocyte maturation and subsequent embryo production.

Biological and pharmacological aspects of tannins and potential biotechnological applications.

Secondary metabolites are divided into three classes: phenolic, terpenoid, and nitrogenous compounds. Phenolic compounds are also known as polyphenols and include tannins, classified as hydrolysable or condensed. Herein, we explored tannins for their ROS reduction characteristics and role in homeostasis.

Understanding the participation of mothers in the care for their children with chronic diseases in an Intensive Care Unit.

Objective: To understand the perception of mothers of children with chronic diseases hospitalized in intensive care unitsabout their participation in the care of their children.

Method: Qualitative study based on the premises of the Situated Phenomenon Structure Analysis, with 14 mothers, in Campinas, São Paulo. The discourseswere obtained through open interviews from November 2020 to January 2021, analyzed and discussed according to literature on the topic.

Migraine associated with tinnitus and hearing loss in adults: a systematic review.

Objective: To describe evidence of migraine-associated tinnitus and hearing loss.

Design: This study was registered in PROSPERO and followed the PRISMA guidelines. The inclusion criteria were observational studies with subjects aged ≥18 years, in which the association between migraine and tinnitus and/or hearing loss was evaluated.

Prebriefing in clinical simulation in nursing: scoping review.

Objective: To map the concept and structural elements of the prebriefing phase in clinical simulations in nursing.

Method: Scoping review with searches between May and June 2021 in the databases PubMed, Virtual Health Library, EMBASE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Web of Science, CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations and Google Scholar, in portuguese, spanish and english, without time limit.

Results: 24 studies were selected.

Physical therapy for the management of motor symptoms in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: protocol for a systematic review.

Introduction: The prescription of an intervention plan can be challenging for the physical therapist, considering clinical phenotypes, individual prognosis and the rapid, progressive and deteriorating nature of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In this context, therapeutic exercises (eg, resistance and aerobic exercises) for patients with ALS remain controversial and may influence the treatment plan. Therefore, this review aims to critically assess whether physical therapy interventions are effective for improving functional capacity, quality of life and fatigue of individuals with ALS.

Impact of physiotherapy with telerehabilitation on caregivers of patients with neurological disorders: A systematic review protocol.

Introduction: Caregivers are essential during and after rehabilitation but exhibit intense physical and mental burdens due to responsibilities, resulting in stress, irritability, depression, anxiety, pain, and financial distress. Telerehabilitation offers several remote health services that improve time, engagement, and physical and mental health care access. Thus, we outlined a systematic review protocol to evaluate the impact of telerehabilitation on the burden, stress, pain, and quality of life of caregivers of patients with neurological disorders.

Dyslipidemia induced by lipid diet in late gestation donor impact on growth kinetics and in vitro potential differentiation of umbilical cord Wharton's Jelly mesenchymal stem cells in goats.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) from the umbilical cord (UC) have several attractive properties for clinical use. This study aimed to verify the impact of a lipid-rich diet during late gestation of donor goats on the growth and differentiation of MSCs from UC. From the 100th day of pregnancy to delivery, 22 goats were grouped based on their diet into the donor-lipid (DLD; n = 11) and donor-baseline (DBD; n = 11) diet groups.

Objective: to know the experiences of family members of adolescents with gender incongruence.

Method: this is a qualitative case study, supported by the Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Models theoretical-methodological framework. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews, participant observation in family groups and document analysis, with eight family members.

Several antigens can act as allergens eliciting IgE-mediated food allergy reactions when fed to sensitized animals. One of them is ovalbumin (OVA) which is the main allergen in egg white. Allergic mice develop aversion to OVA consumption.

Remote versus face-to-face home-based exercise programme in people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: protocol for a randomised clinical trial.

Introduction: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with variable and complex clinical manifestations that requires a multidisciplinary approach. However, face-to-face treatment in this population may experience barriers, such as difficulty accessing physical therapists or other professionals. As a result, strategies (eg, telerehabilitation) emerged to facilitate treatment and physical therapy monitoring.

Should new operating procedures arising from COVID-19 make us re-think our management of deep caries?

COVID-19 has impacted heavily on the delivery of dental services within the UK, particularly in regards to aerosol generating procedures (AGPs). However, it has created an opportunity to reflect on how operative dental procedures, such as the management of dental caries, are undertaken. In light of recent evidence in favour of speed increasing contra-angle handpieces in combination with an electric micromotor to eliminate the generation of aerosols at certain speeds while still allowing the cutting of hard tooth tissue, albeit at a slower rate than the traditional air-turbine, this article explores the evidence for partial caries removal using the electric micromotor system.

Anxiety and its influence on maternal breastfeeding self-efficacy.

Objective: to identify the levels of anxiety and breastfeeding self-efficacy in puerperal women at the intervals of 60, 120, and 180 days postpartum; and to verify the influence of anxiety on breastfeeding self-efficacy among these puerperal women.

Method: an analytical, longitudinal and prospective study, conducted with 186 puerperal women, and which used a sociodemographic and obstetric characterization questionnaire, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale - Short Form. The analyses were performed by means of descriptive statistics, and Fisher's Exact Test was used.

The act of playing as a signifier for the application of the dramatic Therapeutic Toy performed by the nurse: theoretical reflection.

Objective: To reflect on the possible contributions of the act of playing as a signifier in the use of dramatic Therapeutic Toy performed by the nurse.

Methods: Theoretical-reflexive study, based on three moments: The language of the unconscious that emerges as a signifier when playing; How the dramatic Therapeutic Toy is used by the nurse; and the act of playing as a signifier during the application of the dramatic Therapeutic Toy: contributions to nursing practice.

Results: Through the intervention of the nurse in the sessions, the act of playing mediated by the dramatic Therapeutic Toy provides the child with the opportunity to elaborate on signifier elements that had not been meant by him.

Support group for families with children in a pediatric intensive care unit.

Objective: To describe the process of creating and implementing a support group for families with children in a pediatric intensive care unit.

Methods: A professional experience report described using a management and planning tool.

Results: This is a pioneering initiative in the hospital.
