Article Synopsis
  • The Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) outbreak in Buenos Aires, first identified in 2017, revealed unique strain characteristics that prompted further study.
  • Researchers analyzed 88 LGV strains from symptomatic patients between 2017 and 2019, identifying various types including L2b, L1-like, and L2, with notable genetic diversity.

The International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS) developed consensus guidelines to inform anal cancer screening use among various high-risk groups. Anal cancer incidence estimates by age among risk groups provided the basis to identify risk thresholds to recommend screening. Guided by risk thresholds, screening initiation at age 35 years was recommended for men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TW) with HIV.

From 2003 to date there has been a rising number of reports from developed countries on cases of lymphogranuloma venereum with anorectal localization in HIV-infected men who have sex with men. This localization differs from the classical inguinal abscesses which are typical of the disease in the tropics. The aim of this report is to describe a novel technical approach to total anorectal reconstruction and show surgical results and functional outcome. The technique is an innovative surgery to restore gastrointestinal perineal continuity after coloproctectomy in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis. We made the internal anal sphincter replacement with demucosated small bowel plication, the external anal sphincter replacement with an artificial bowel sphincter (ABS) and the restitution of intestinal transit with and ileal "S" pouch.
