Purpose: Graduate programs often use practicum experience with clients from nonmajority cultures to improve students' cultural responsiveness. Yet, it is not clear whether simply working with a client from a nonmajority culture actually confers this benefit or whether students are thinking about how to include culturally responsive behaviors when they are considering how to address a clinical case.
Method: Twenty first-year speech-language pathology graduate students (10 Spanish-English bilinguals, 10 monolingual English speakers) were split into three groups: monolingual experimental ( 4), bilingual experimental ( 4), and control ( 12).
Objectives: Injuries from motor vehicle crashes are a significant public health problem. The emergency department (ED) provides a setting that may be used to screen for behaviors that increase risk for motor vehicle crashes and provide brief interventions to people who might otherwise not have access to screening and intervention. The purpose of the present study was to (1) assess the feasibility of using a computer-assisted screening program to educate ED patients about risky driving behaviors, (2) evaluate patient acceptance of the computer-based traffic safety educational intervention during an ED visit, and (3) assess postintervention changes in risky driving behaviors.

The Merck Childhood Asthma Network, Inc. (MCAN) is a nonprofit organization that provides support to translate evidence-based interventions from research to practice.

The Merck Childhood Asthma Network, Inc. initiative recognized the importance of partnerships in achieving the program's goals.

The authors summarize the sites' experience by describing criteria defining the fidelity of translation, community contextual factors serving as barriers or enablers to fidelity, types of adaptation conducted, and strategies used to balance contextual factors and fidelity in developing a "best fit" for EBIs in the community. A conceptual model captures important structural and process-related factors and helps frame lessons learned.

(MCAN) initiative selected five sites that had high asthma burden and established asthma programs but were ready for greater program integration across schools, health care systems, and communities. MCAN supported a community-based approach that was tailored to the needs of each program site.

Public health surveillance offers an opportunity to improve our understanding of the problem of CM. In 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded state public health agencies in California, Michigan, and Oregon to implement a model approach for routine and sustainable CM surveillance and evaluated the experience of those efforts.

We conducted 18 focus groups with pregnant and recently pregnant women in three US cities in September 2009. Participants were segmented into groups by insurance status (no or public insurance vs.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of 105 children [mean gestation of 27 weeks] was undertaken. Lung function assessments were conducted at a mean age of 10 years according to standard criteria.
To better understand the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of providers regarding influenza infection and vaccination in pregnancy, fourteen focus groups were conducted among 92 providers in Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX; and Portland, OR in late 2009. NVivo 8.0 was used for analysis.

The defined periods of lung development-Embryonic, Pseudoglandular, Canalicular, Saccular and Alveolar-will be explored in detail in relation to gestational age. Cellular differentiation, formation of the conducting airways and respiratory zone and development of the alveoli will be reviewed.

We aimed to assess the 10-year lung function and fitness outcomes for children who were born weighing <1000 g and before 32 weeks' gestation in 1992-1994.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted of 126 children (mean age: 10 years) who were born at a mean gestation of 27 weeks and 34 term-born control subjects.
Objective: Although dornase alfa is a widely used, aerosolized, mucolytic agent in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), its efficacy in relation to the timing of physiotherapy has not been tested. We sought to determine whether dornase alfa is more efficacious when it is administered 30 minutes before versus 30 minutes after physiotherapy/positive expiratory pressure (PEP) therapy in clinically stable children.
Methods: Using a crossover, randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled trial, we undertook a 6-week study of the efficacy of dornase alfa in relation to the timing of physiotherapy at home.
Shuttle tests are simple, inexpensive field tests that have been used to estimate the cardiorespiratory status of children. It has yet to be validated in children with CF. The aim of this study was to assess the reproducibility and criterion validity of shuttle tests in children with cystic fibrosis (CF).
