Parental Emotional Availability and Family Functioning in Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa Subtypes.

Emotional availability (EA) is a complex construct describing the emotional bond between parents and child, and it refers to support, sensitivity, warmth and closeness. Few studies have investigated the perception of parental EA and its association with dysfunctional eating pattern. The aim of the study is to explore the perception of mothers' and fathers' EA of adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN) and any differences between the two subtypes of binge-purge (B/P) or restrictive (R) AN.

Metacognition in individuals recovered from anorexia nervosa: a voxel-based morphometry study.

Recent evidence shows that individuals with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) can be characterized by dysfunctional metacognition as well as reductions of gray matter volumes (GMV) in prefrontal brain regions involved in cognitive processes. However, whether these differences are reversible or stable markers has yet to be understood. Thus, we aimed at characterizing metacognition and brain morphometry in individuals recovered from AN (rec-AN).

Family functioning, coparenting, and parents' ability to manage conflict in adolescent anorexia nervosa subtypes.

Introduction: Studies about family functioning in adolescent anorexia nervosa (AN) are conflicting and often do not consider the possible differences between the restricting and binge/purging subtypes (AN-R and AN-B/P). Moreover, an underestimated element is the quality of the coparenting relationship, that is, the level of coordination and agreement between parents, as well as the methods of managing parental conflict.

Method: The study aims to explore family functioning, coparenting and conflict management in a sample of 60 adolescents with AN-R and AN-B/P and their relations with AN severity in terms of body mass index (BMI).

Exploring health-related quality of life in eating disorders by a cross-sectional study and a comprehensive review.

Background: People with eating disorders (ED) often report poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL), which is explicitly correlated to illness' severity and its effects on cognitive performance. We aimed to analyze health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in subgroups of eating disorder (ED) patients by using the brief version of WHOQoL questionnaire (WHOQoL-BREF) before treatment administration. Moreover, in order to compare our findings with other published data, we carried out a comprehensive review of the literature on HRQoL in ED patients.
