Anatomopathological characterization of hepatic lesions of feline infectious peritonitis in cats.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is one of the most important infectious diseases and a significant cause of death in cats. While the pathology of FIP has been well documented, there is little information on the hepatic lesions. The aim of this study was to characterize the macroscopic, microscopic and immunohistochemical patterns of the liver lesions in cats with FIP.

Characterization of Cetacean Morbillivirus in Humpback Whales, Brazil.

Cetacean morbillivirus is an etiologic agent associated with strandings of live and dead cetacean species occurring sporadically or as epizootics worldwide. We report 2 cases of cetacean morbillivirus in humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) in Brazil and describe the anatomopathological, immunohistochemical, and molecular characterization findings in the specimens.

Septicemic salmonellosis in suckling piglets resulting from improper intramuscular administration of an oral vaccine.

We describe an unusual outbreak of mortality in suckling piglets following the misadministration of an oral vaccine against Typhimurium and Choleraesuis. Within 3-48 h of vaccination of a batch of ~700 piglets, ~300 developed marked swelling in the dorsal neck region, respiratory distress, fever, recumbency, and apathy. In total, ~100 died, and 4 were submitted for autopsy.

Encephalic meningioangiomatosis in a dog with high-grade undefined glioma.

Meningioangiomatosis (MA) is a rare proliferative meningovascular disorder that affects mainly the cerebral cortex, brainstem and spinal cord of humans and animals and can coexist with other proliferative disorders. A 7.5-year-old male Brazilian Campeiro Bulldog died after a convulsive crisis and cardiorespiratory arrest.

Glioma with cribriform plate involvement in 6 dogs.

Distinct patterns of local infiltration are a common feature of canine oligodendroglioma and astrocytoma, and typically involve the surrounding neuroparenchyma, ventricles, or leptomeninges. Infiltration of adjacent extraneural sites is rare and has not been well documented in veterinary medicine. Here we describe 6 canine gliomas with cribriform plate involvement (compression or infiltration) and caudal nasal invasion confirmed by neuroimaging, autopsy, and/or histology.
