To assess and compare two techniques of low-level laser application-transgingival (TLLLT) and intrasulcular (ILLLT)-used in photobiomodulation as an adjunct to basic periodontal therapy (BPT) in patients with periodontitis. A randomized, split-mouth, double-blind clinical trial was conducted, selecting three diseased periodontal sites from different quadrants in each patient. These sites were assigned to one of three treatment groups: SRP (control), SRP + TLLLT (test 1), and SRP + ILLLT (test 2).

To analyze the reproducibility and intra- and interobserver agreement of the IDEAL classification for distal radius fractures. This qualitative, analytical study evaluated 50 pairs of radiographs in two views of patients with distal radius fractures. There were ten observers with different levels of orthopedic training who assessed the radiographs in three different evaluations.

Methods: The methodology encompasses theme definition, comprehensive database searches, and a critical review of pertinent literature. Of the 1,947 articles initially identified, 15 were meticulously selected based on stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Gene editing the BCL11A erythroid enhancer is a validated approach to fetal hemoglobin (HbF) induction for β-hemoglobinopathy therapy, though heterogeneity in edit allele distribution and HbF response may impact its safety and efficacy. Here, we compare combined CRISPR-Cas9 editing of the BCL11A +58 and +55 enhancers with leading gene modification approaches under clinical investigation. Dual targeting of the BCL11A +58 and +55 enhancers with 3xNLS-SpCas9 and two single guide RNAs (sgRNAs) resulted in superior HbF induction, including in sickle cell disease (SCD) patient xenografts, attributable to simultaneous disruption of core half E-box/GATA motifs at both enhancers.

The Amazon, an important biodiversity hotspot, remains poorly explored in terms of its microbial diversity and biotechnological potential. The present study characterized the metabolic potential of Gram-positive strains of the Actinomycetes and Bacilli classes isolated from soil samples of an Amazon Conservation Unit. The sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene classified the strains ACT015, ACT016, and FIR094 within the genera , , and , respectively.

To address variations in fetal hemoglobin (HbF) response, we investigated editing both +58 and +55 enhancers. Rhesus macaques transplanted with edited hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) following busulfan conditioning exhibited durable, high-level (∼90%) editing frequencies post transplantation with sustained HbF reactivation over 4 years, without hematological perturbations.

Scapular dyskinesis, fractures, benign and malignant masses, and neuropathies are frequently overlooked yet can substantially affect shoulder pain and function, particularly in athletes. Scapulothoracic disorders may lead to and/or be worsened by common shoulder abnormalities including those of the rotator cuff, neighboring bursae, and the glenohumeral articulation and labrum.

This study aims to investigate the role of miRNA serum expression according to laboratory data concerning hepatitis and COVID-19. Seventy individuals recruited in Southern and Southeastern Brazil donated serum samples and were divided into four groups: (i) 20 negative subjects, (ii) 20 presenting hepatitis, (iii) 19 with COVID-19 and (iv) 11 with hepatitis and COVID-19.

Therefore, we sought to assess the impact of a multicomponent nutritional strategy on glycemic control in T2D patients within a public health system.
Methods: NUGLIC was an open-label, parallel-group, superiority, multicenter randomized controlled trial.
Three-dimensional printing is widely becoming prevalent in various industries, including the automotive sector. As this technology advances, critical structures subjected to impact loads may also be produced using additive manufacturing. A key parameter in this technique is the infill density of the printed geometry, which directly affects mechanical properties such as strength, stiffness, and ductility.

Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most prevalent childhood psychiatric condition with profound public health, personal, and family consequences. ADHD requires comprehensive treatment; however, lack of communication and integration across multiple points of care is a substantial barrier to progress. Given the chronic and pervasive challenges associated with ADHD, innovative approaches are crucial.

Background: Nuts consumption is related to cardioprotective effects on primary cardiovascular prevention, but studies conducted in secondary prevention are small, scarce and controversial. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effects of a regional and sustainable cardioprotective diet added or not with an affordable mixed nuts on cardiometabolic features in patients with previous myocardial infarction.
Methods: DICA-NUTS study is a national, multi-center, and superiority-parallel randomized clinical trial.
Introduction: is a highly contagious pathogen that causes various diseases in herd animals, negatively impacting reproduction, production, and milk yield. Effective diagnostic methods and vaccine development are critical for controlling outbreaks. This systematic review aimed to evaluate diagnostic alternatives and vaccine compounds based on recombinant proteins.

The PAM2 motif represents a binding site for poly (A)-binding proteins (PABPs), often associated with RNA metabolism regulation. The PAM2-containing protein ERD15 stands out as a critical regulator of diverse stress responses in plants.

An important mechanism of antimicrobial resistance is the overexpression of efflux pumps, which reduce the intracellular concentration of antimicrobials. TolC is the outer membrane protein of an efflux pump that has gained attention as a therapeutic target.

Introduction: We compared fixed and articulated ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) in home-based mobility tasks to assess short-term mobility, dynamic balance, quality of life, anxiety/depression, disability level, stroke severity, autonomy, human functioning, and patient satisfaction.
Methods: This was a two-arm, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial with concealed allocation, assessor blinding, and a complete case analysis involving patients with chronic stroke. The participants were randomized into two groups: fixed ( = 24) and articulated ( = 23) AFOs.
The present study aimed to verify the effect of acute nitrate supplementation on oxidative, phosphocreatine, and glycolytic energy contribution (C, C, and C respectively) during a high-intensity intermittent exercise (HIIE). Fifteen physically active subjects were submitted to incremental running test on a treadmill and two random HIIE (10 × 1 min at maximal aerobic speed with 1 min of passive recovery) in the following conditions: sodium nitrate (SN) or Placebo (PL). Repeated measure ANOVA was used to compare C, and C within the 10 efforts.
