Preferences, Perceptions, and Environmental Considerations of Natural and Synthetic Psychedelic Substances: Findings from the Global Psychedelic Survey.

Although several studies have well described the characteristics of people who use psychedelics alongside their motivations and beliefs, little research has examined the preferences surrounding the source of psychedelic substances. In an anonymous online survey, we collected data from 6,379 consumers of 11 different psychedelic substances from 85 different countries, exploring their preferences and perceptions on natural and synthetic psychedelics. There was a strong preference of natural sources over synthetic alternatives for psilocybin (75%), DMT (56%), and mescaline (56%).

Cultural Competence and Nursing Work Environment: Impact on Culturally Congruent Care in Portuguese Multicultural Healthcare Units.

Background: Cultural competence is central to ensuring effective culturally congruent care to patients and fostering positive work environments, particularly in multicultural settings.

Objective: This study aimed to analyse the relationship between cultural competence, the nursing work environment, and the delivery of culturally congruent care in multicultural units of a healthcare organisation in Portugal.

Method: This was a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study, targeting nurses from multicultural units.

How the Nursing Practice Environment Influences Retention and Turnover Intention: An Umbrella Review Protocol.

Background: Currently, there is a global shortage of nurses, which has a negative impact on health institutions, mainly on the quality of care provided. The quality of nursing care depends on several factors, including the nursing practice environment, which has been stated as a fundamental element for the successful functioning of health systems. Scientific evidence shows that favorable practice environments contribute to nurse retention, and unfavorable environments increase nurses' turnover intention.

Mammographic density and exposure to air pollutants in premenopausal women: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Mammographic density (MD) is a well-established risk factor for breast cancer. Air pollution is a major public health concern and a recognized carcinogen. We aim to investigate the association between MD and exposure to specific air pollutants (SO, CO, NO, NO, NO, PM, PM, and O) in premenopausal females.

Physical activity and life expectancy: a life-table analysis.

Objective: Low physical activity (PA) levels are associated with increased mortality. Improved measurement has resulted in stronger proven associations between PA and mortality, but this has not yet translated to improved estimates of the disease burden attributable to low PA. This study estimated how much low PA reduces life expectancy, and how much life expectancy could be improved by increasing PA levels for both populations and individuals.

Global Trends in Psychedelic Microdosing: Demographics, Substance Testing Behavior, and Patterns of Use.

Despite psychedelic microdosing being a growing practice, the research on the topic is still in its infancy. While several studies have described the characteristics, motivations and practices of microdosers, the differences between individuals that only microdose and those that use both micro and macrodoses of psychedelics remain unexplored. In an online survey, we collected data of 6193 psychedelic consumers of which 2488 were microdosers of up to 11 different classical and atypical psychedelics.

Systemic and local chronic inflammation and hormone disposition promote a tumor-permissive environment for breast cancer in older women.

Unlabelled: Estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer is the most common subtype of breast cancer and is an age-related disease. The peak incidence of diagnosis occurs around age 70, even though these post-menopausal patients have low circulating levels of estradiol (E2). Despite the hormone sensitivity of age-related tumors, we have a limited understanding of the interplay between systemic and local hormones, chronic inflammation, and immune changes that contribute to the growth and development of these tumors.

Co-use of psychedelics with other substances: Findings from the global psychedelic survey.

Background/aims: While most psychedelic substances are considered to carry a relatively low risk of acute or long-term harm, co-use with other psychoactive substances may increase health and social harm. Using a large international survey of adults who use psychedelics, we sought to comprehensively characterize psychedelic co-use.

Methods: We used data from the 2023 Global Psychedelic Survey, a web-based survey of adults ⩾21 with lifetime use of psychedelics.

Occupational Exposures, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Tomographic Findings in the Spanish Population.

Self-reported occupational exposure was previously associated with COPD in the Spanish population. This study aimed to analyse the relationship between occupational exposure to various chemical and biological agents, COPD, emphysema, and the bronchial wall area, which was determined by lung computed tomography (CT) in 226 individuals with COPD and 300 individuals without COPD. Lifetime occupational exposures were assessed using the ALOHA(+) job exposure matrix, and CT and spirometry were also performed.

Background: Patient safety is an important component of healthcare service quality, and there are numerous instruments in the literature that measure patient safety. This scoping reviewaims to map the instruments/scales for assessing patient safety in healthcare services.

Socio-emotional competencies (SECs) are essential for the quality of nursing practice. This study aimed to understand the pedagogical strategies provided by universities for the development of SECs in Brazil, as perceived by nursing students. This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach involving 57 nursing students from a public Higher Education Institution in Brazil.

MALT1 protease inhibition restrains glioblastoma progression by reversing tumor-associated macrophage-dependent immunosuppression.

MALT1 protease is an intracellular signaling molecule that promotes tumor progression via cancer cell-intrinsic and cancer cell-extrinsic mechanisms. MALT1 has been mostly studied in lymphocytes, and little is known about its role in tumor-associated macrophages. Here, we show that MALT1 plays a key role in glioblastoma (GBM)-associated macrophages.

Inequalities in Research on Food Environment Policies: An Evidence Map of Global Evidence from 2010-2020.

There has been increasing pressure to implement policies for promoting healthy food environments worldwide. We conducted an evidence map to critically explore the breadth and nature of primary research from 2010-2020 that evaluated the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, development, and implementation of mandatory and voluntary food environment policies. Fourteen databases and 2 websites were searched for "real-world" evaluations of international, national, and state level policies promoting healthy food environments.

Protocol for aerial trapping and analyses of candidate pheromone compounds released by moths via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Detection of pheromones is pivotal to chemical ecology and agronomy; however, analytic detection of the volatile pheromone components from odorized air is highly challenging. Here, we introduce a protocol for the detection of airborne pheromones from female moths, which are key models for chemosensory studies. We describe a step-by-step guide from pheromone collection to quantitative estimation of pheromone components.

mDia2 is an important mediator of MRTF-A-dependent regulation of breast cancer cell migration.

Dysregulated actin cytoskeleton gives rise to aberrant cell motility and metastatic spread of tumor cells. This study evaluates the effect of overexpression of wild-type versus functional mutants of MRTF-A on migration and invasion of breast cancer (BC) cells. Our studies indicate that SRF's interaction is critical for MRTF-A-induced promotion of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional cell migration, while the SAP-domain function is important selectively for three-dimensional cell migration.

Immune Infiltration Correlates with Transcriptomic Subtypes in Primary ER+ Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer.

Understanding interplay of breast cancer and microenvironment is critical. Here, we identified two transcriptomic subtypes and five immune infiltration patterns from RNA-seq and multiplex immunohistochemistry from 21 ER+/HER2- invasive lobular breast cancers. The proliferative subtype associated with increased immune infiltration especially by immunosuppressive regulatory T-cells and macrophages.

An interlaboratory proficiency test using metagenomic sequencing as a diagnostic tool for the detection of RNA viruses in swine fecal material.

Unlabelled: Metagenomic shotgun sequencing (mNGS) can serve as a generic molecular diagnostic tool. An mNGS proficiency test (PT) was performed in six European veterinary and public health laboratories to detect porcine astroviruses in fecal material and the extracted RNA. While different mNGS workflows for the generation of mNGS data were used in the different laboratories, the bioinformatic analysis was standardized using a metagenomic read classifier as well as read mapping to selected astroviral reference genomes to assess the semiquantitative representation of astrovirus species mixtures.

Impact of Nurse Manager's Attributes on Multi-Cultural Nursing Teams: A Scoping Review.

Background: As global migration increases, nurse managers' effectiveness in multi-cultural nursing work environments is crucial due to the rising cultural diversity within healthcare teams. Despite the increasing international recruitment of qualified nurses to address the worldwide nursing shortage, no studies have synthesised the impact of nurse managers' attributes on nurses in multi-cultural nursing teams. Therefore, it was conducted a literature review aimed to synthesise the available literature on how nurse managers' personality traits, competencies, behaviours, and leadership styles influence nurse outcomes in multi-cultural nursing teams.

Utility of the 70-Gene MammaPrint Assay for Prediction of Benefit From Extended Letrozole Therapy in the NRG Oncology/NSABP B-42 Trial.

Purpose: MammaPrint (MP) determines distant metastatic risk and may improve patient selection for extended endocrine therapy (EET). This study examined MP in predicting extended letrozole therapy (ELT) benefit in patients with early-stage breast cancer (BC) from the NSABP B-42 trial.
