Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied tree hyrax populations in coastal Kenya's forests and caves to identify species and assess their threat levels.
  • They used passive acoustic monitoring over 84 hours to record nocturnal vocalizations and found four distinct calls emitted primarily between 11 PM and 4 AM.
  • The study highlights the need for conservation measures to protect these socially living hyraxes from human-induced threats to their isolated populations.
