Pediatric cystic lymphangioma of the retroperitoneum: A case report and review of the literature.

Rationale: Cystic lymphangioma (CL) is a rare benign tumor resulting from a failure of the lymphatic system development. It may occur at any age but it is more frequent during childhood. Its clinical presentation and location are various but abdominal CL are uncommon.

Pancreaticogastrostomy after pancreaticoduodenectomy without suturing the pancreas.

The aim of the present paper was to describe a new and easy technique for performing pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) through simple pancreatic invagination by a single binding suture without suturing the pancreatic parenchyma. The present study included all consecutive patients who underwent elective pancreaticoduodenectomy from 2007 to 2015. The intraoperative and postoperative outcomes after PG (PG group) were compared with those of patients who underwent pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) (PJ group).

Cargo Release from Polymeric Vesicles under Shear.

In this paper we study the release of cargo from polymeric nano-carriers under shear. Vesicles formed by two star block polymers- A 12 B 6 C 2 ( A B C ) and A 12 B 6 A 2 ( A B A )-and one linear block copolymer- A 14 B 6 ( A B ), are investigated using dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations. A - and C -blocks are solvophobic and B -block is solvophilic.

Omental fibromatosis treated by laparoscopic wide surgical resection.

The current report presents a case of an omental fibromatosis discovered incidentally in a 46-year-old woman with no particular medical history and few symptoms. A surgical biopsy was performed initially, and microscopic examination revealed myofibroblastic proliferation. After additional immunohistochemical and molecular analyses, omental fibromatosis was diagnosed.

End-colostomy diverticulitis with parastomal phlegmon: A case report.

Rationale: Acute colonic diverticulitis is a well-known surgical emergency, which occurs in about 10 percent of patients known for diverticulosis.

Patient Concerns: The case of a 77-year-old woman is reported, with past history of abdominoperineal resection with end-colostomy for low rectal adenocarcinoma, and who developed an acute colonic diverticulitis in a subcutaneous portion of colostomy with parastomal phlegmon.

Diagnoses: Initial computed tomography imaging demonstrated a significant submucosal parietal edema with local fat tissues infiltration in regard of 3 diverticula.

Terpolymer raspberry vesicles contain domains of different chemical affinities. They are potential candidates as multi-compartment cargo carriers. Their efficacy depends on their stability and load capacity.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare clinical outcomes of early versus delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) in acute cholecystitis with more than 72 hours of symptoms.

Background: LC is the treatment of acute cholecystitis, with consensus recommendation that patients should be operated within 72 hours of evolution. Data however remain weak with no prospective study focusing on patients beyond 72 hours of symptoms.

Robotic-Assisted Surgery Improves the Quality of Total Mesorectal Excision for Rectal Cancer Compared to Laparoscopy: Results of a Case-Controlled Analysis.

Background: The use of a robotic surgical system is claimed to allow precise traction and counter-traction, especially in a narrow pelvis. Whether this translates to improvement of the quality of the resected specimen is not yet clear. The aim of the study was to compare the quality of the TME and the short-term oncological outcome between robotic and laparoscopic rectal cancer resections.

Fibrin sealant for mesh fixation in endoscopic inguinal hernia repair: is there enough evidence for its routine use?

Fibrin sealing has recently evolved as a new technique for mesh fixation in endoscopic inguinal hernia repair. A comprehensive Medline search was carried out evaluating fibrin sealant for mesh fixation, and finally 12 studies were included (3 randomized trials, 3 nonrandomized trials, and 6 case series). The trials were assessed for operative time, seroma formation, recovery time, recurrence rate, and acute and chronic pain.
