Retinal stimulation (RS) allows restoring vision in blind patients, but it covers only a narrow region of the visual field. Optic nerve stimulation (ONS) has the potential to produce visual perceptions spanning the whole visual field, but it produces very irregular phosphenes. Cirillo is a species distributed in central and southern Italy and includes two subspecies with uncertain taxonomic position and distribution. By means of nuclear and chloroplast markers, we attempted at testing the genetic distinctness of the two subspecies, as well as their possible correspondence with geographical or ecological patterns. After a revision of geographic occurrences based on herbarium data, we carried out species distribution modeling to assess the present and future distribution of this species under different ecological variables, also for conservation purposes.

The South American fruit fly (Wiedmann) has a vast range extending from northern Mexico, through Central America, to South America where it is an extremely polyphagous pest of wild and cultivated fruits. It is a complex of cryptic species currently composed of eight recognised morphotypes: "Mexican", "Venezuelan", "Andean", "Peruvian", "Ecuadorian", and the three Brazilian morphotypes "Brazilian-1", "Brazilian-2", and "Brazilian-3". Molecular markers that can identify the member species of the complex are crucial for the implementation of effective pest control measures, such as the sterile insect technique.

Background: Discomfort can be the cause of noninvasive respiratory support (NRS) failure in up to 50% of treated patients. Several studies have shown how analgosedation during NRS can reduce the rate of delirium, endotracheal intubation, and hospital length of stay in patients with acute respiratory failure.
