Background And Objectives: Data on HIV drug resistance in Madagascar are rare and outdated. In this study, we assessed the prevalence of HIV drug resistance mutations to antiretrovirals (ARVs) and genetic diversity of circulating strains in treatment-naive people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Madagascar.

Materials And Methods: We amplified the protease (PR), fragments of the Reverse Transcriptase (RT) and Integrase (IN) genes according to the French ANRS protocol.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major public health threat, affecting not only people but also animals and the environment. The One Health dimension of AMR is well known; however, data are lacking on the circulation of resistance-conferring genes, particularly in low-income countries. In 2017, WHO proposed a protocol called Tricycle, focusing on extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-Escherichia coli surveillance in the three sectors (humans, animals, and the environment).

The widespread of chlorhexidine and antibiotics in the water bodies, which grew during the global COVID-19 pandemic, can increase the dispersion of antibiotic resistance. We assessed the occurrence of these pharmaceutical compounds as well as SARS-CoV-2 and analysed the bacterial community structure of hospital and urban wastewaters from Brazil, Cameroon, and Madagascar. Water and wastewater samples (n = 59) were collected between January-June 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • A study in Madagascar from January 2018 to June 2021 examined IgG antibody prevalence against six arboviruses in people living with HIV-1, using a Luminex-based assay on 1036 samples.
  • The results indicated the highest antibody prevalence for O'nyong nyong virus (28.4%), Chikungunya virus (26.7%), and West Nile virus (27.1%), with lower rates for Zika and the other Dengue serotypes.
  • The study found that older individuals had higher seroprevalence for some viruses, and antibody rates varied by region and season, showing a correlation with rainfall and HIV-1 RNA levels, highlighting a significant exposure of PLWHIV to

Article Synopsis
  • * In Madagascar, a study tested rectal swabs from 492 pregnant women and found a 34% prevalence of ESBL carriage, with rates varying from 12% to 65% across different regions, primarily linked to the rainy season.
  • * Whole genome sequencing showed a majority of isolates belonged to common commensal strains, with high diversity in clonal types and evidence of human-to-human transmission, while IncY plasmids were notably prevalent among the resistant strains.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy tumor amongst Malagasy women registered at the pathology unit of the "Institut Pasteur de Madagascar". In Madagascar, there is no laboratory practicing hormone receptors' status on these tumors. Until now no study about hormone receptors' status of Malagasy women with invasive breast cancer was performed.

The authors report the case of a 14-year-old boy with complete isthmic rupture of a horseshoe kidney after a bicycle accident. The imaging diagnosis was difficult because of the presence of a massive retroperitoneal haematoma. However, sonography and CT should be sufficient to detect associated signs, such as malrotation of the renal hila and low-lying kidneys.
