Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to assess the levels of interleukin-17A, interleukin-1 beta, and interleukin-18 in the saliva of patients with celiac disease on a gluten-free diet, both with and without periodontitis, compared to healthy individuals.
  • Results showed that while periodontal health was better in celiac disease patients on a gluten-free diet, there were no significant differences in the interleukin levels between them and healthy controls, although those with periodontitis had elevated levels.
  • The study found significant negative correlations between serum IgA levels and measures of dental plaque and gum health in celiac patients on a gluten-free diet, indicating a link between immune system responses and oral health.
