Microelectrode arrays (MEAs) have been widely used in studies on the electrophysiological features of neuronal networks. In classic MEA experiments, spike or burst rates and spike waveforms are the primary characteristics used to evaluate the neuronal network excitability. Here, we introduced a new method to assess the excitability using the voltage threshold of electrical stimulation.

Owing to their attractive antitumor effects, aminated fullerene derivatives are emerging as promising therapeutic drugs for cancer. However, their in vivo applications are severely limited due to cation toxicity. To address this problem, human heavy chain ferritin (HFn), possessing natural biocompatibility is utilized, to develop a novel supramolecular assembly drug delivery system.

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) was first reported in 2003 and confirmed to be strongly associated with familial hypercholesterolemia. Small-molecule inhibitors targeting PCSK9 provide an effective and safe method for managing hypercholesterolemia and reducing the cardiovascular risk. In recent years, increasing evidence has indicated other important roles for PCSK9 in inflammation, tumors, and even immune regulation.

Nitroaromatics, as an important member and source of nitrogen-containing aromatics, is bringing enormous economic benefits in fields of pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides, functional materials, fertilizers, and explosives. Nonetheless, the notoriously polluting nitration industry, which suffers from excessive discharge of fumes and waste acids, poor functional group tolerance, and tremendous purification difficulty, renders mild, efficient, and environmentally friendly nitration a formidable challenge. Herein, we develop a visible-light-driven biocompatible arene C-H nitration strategy with good efficiency and regioselectivity, marvelous substrate applicability and functional group tolerance, and wide application in scale-up synthesis, total synthesis, and late-stage functionalization.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors play an important role in the treatment of solid tumors, but the currently used immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting programmed cell death-1 (PD-1), programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1), and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) show limited clinical efficacy in many breast cancers. B7H3 has been widely reported as an immunosuppressive molecule, but its immunological function in breast cancer patients remains unclear.

Methods: We analyzed the expression of B7H3 in breast cancer samples using data from the Cancer Genome Atlas Program (TCGA) and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases.

One-dimensional (1D) functional nanowires are widely used as nanoscale building blocks for assembling advanced nanodevices due to their unique functionalities. However, previous research has mainly focused on nanowire functionality, while neglecting the structural stability and damage resistance of nanowire assemblies, which are critical for the long-term operation of nanodevices. Biomaterials achieve excellent mechanical stability and damage resistance through sophisticated structural design.

Background: Endoscopic resection (ER) and laparoscopic resection (LR) have been widely used for the treatment of non-metastatic gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (gGISTs) (2-5 cm), but there are no selection criteria for their application.

Aim: To provide a reference for the development of standardized treatment strategies for gGISTs.

Methods: Clinical baseline characteristics, histopathological results, and short-term and long-term outcomes of patients who treated with ER or LR for gGISTs of 2-5 cm in Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang Province from January 2014 to August 2022 were retrospectively reviewed.

As a both edible and medicinal plant, Hypericum patulum (Hypericaceae) is used as a natural herbal tea, scented tea, and folk medicine. In this study, eight undescribed bicyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinol-related meroterpenoids named hyperpatins A-H, along with eight known ones, were isolated from this plant. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic techniques, chemical method, X-ray crystallographic experiments, and electronic circular dichroism analyses.

In this study, two phosphorus-based flame retardants diethylenetriamine trimethyl diphosphonate lysine (APTA) and a tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate prepolymer with urea (DUPT) were synthesized. The structures of these compounds were characterized via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). FTIR and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses revealed that DUPT crosslinked APTA onto cellulose, which was pre-processed with diethylenetriamine dipropylene oxide (NAED) to introduce NH groups through PCN bonds.

Managing wounds infected with multi-drug-resistant (MDR) bacteria remains a significant public health challenge in clinical settings. While multifunctional hydrogels are commonly employed to treat skin infections, there is a scarcity of hydrogels that effectively combine cationic guar gum (CG) with both potent antimicrobial and safe therapeutic actions. This study introduces a novel pH responsive, dual-dynamically crosslinked hydrogel (CFC-PDA/Ag), synthesized by crosslinking CG with polydopamine (PDA)-coated silver nanozymes (PDA/PM-AgNPs).
