Endothelial cell (EC) senescence characterized by an irreversible growth arrest leading to endothelial dysfunction has been implicated in vascular aging and aging-associated cardiovascular diseases. Autophagy plays a crucial role in the modulation of cellular senescence. Our previous showed that myosin 1b (Myo1b), one family of nonfilamentous class-1 myosin, was reported to be involved in the modulation of human smooth muscle cell senescence.

Lived experiences of young adult Chinese American breast cancer survivors: A qualitative analysis of their strengths and challenges using expressive writing.

Purpose: Immigrant young adults of cancer survivors face unique challenges but their unmet needs are not well understood. The purpose of this study was to identify the challenges and strengths of immigrant young adult Chinese American breast cancer survivors.

Method: Descriptive phenomenology using a qualitative research approach was employed in this study.

Deeds and Words: Farmers' Attitude-Paradox in Collective Action for Small-Scale Irrigation.

We explore the mechanisms of the attitude-behavior paradox and how multiple stakeholders strategize to compromise their attitudes and behaviors. Through an instrumental variable probit model, we examine the effect of income heterogeneity and social ties on the farmers' attitude-behavior paradox for collective action. The empirical results demonstrate that weak and strong ties, income heterogeneity, interaction terms, education, community environment, and community rules negatively affect the paradox, whereas water stealing and water use conflicts positively affect it.

Exosome-Derived microRNA: Implications in Melanoma Progression, Diagnosis and Treatment.

Melanoma is a malignant and aggressive cancer, and its progression is greatly affected by interactions between melanoma cells and their surroundings. Exploration on mechanism of melanoma and improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies are becoming increasingly important. Unlike extracellular messengers that mainly work on targeted cells through corresponding receptors, exosomes are essential intercellular messengers that deliver biologically active substances such as nucleic acids and proteins to target cells for cell-cell communication.

Arginase 2 negatively regulates sorafenib-induced cell death by mediating ferroptosis in melanoma.

Ferroptosis, a newly defined and iron-dependent cell death, morphologically and biochemically differs from other cell deaths. Melanoma is a serious type of skin cancer, and the poor efficacy of current therapies causes a major increase in mortality. Sorafenib, a multiple kinase inhibitor, has been evaluated in clinical phase trials of melanoma patients, which shows modest efficacy.

Vigabatrin-associated brain abnormalities on MRI in tuberous sclerosis complex patients with infantile spasms: are they preventable?

Background: Vigabatrin (VGB) is currently the most widely prescribed first-line medication for individuals with infantile spasms (IS) and especially for those with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), with demonstrated efficacy. Meanwhile, its adverse events, such as vigabatrin-associated brain abnormalities on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; VABAM), have also been widely reported.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to observe the occurrences of VABAM in patients with IS caused by TSC (IST) and further explore the associated risk factors.

The effects of culturally adapted expressive writing interventions on depressive and anxiety symptoms among Chinese American breast cancer survivors: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Expressive writing interventions confer mental health benefits for non-Hispanic Whites. However, research is lacking in adapting this paradigm for minoritized groups. This study evaluated the impacts of two culturally adapted expressive writing interventions on depressive and anxiety symptoms and potential mediators (perceived stress and intrusive thoughts) among Chinese American breast cancer survivors (CABCS).

Comparison of the predictive power of the 2005 and 2010 Caprini risk assessment models for deep vein thrombosis in Chinese orthopedic patients at admission: A prospective cohort study.

Introduction: Several DVT risk assessment tools have been developed and validated to stratify the patients. The 2005 and 2010 Caprini risk assessment models (RAMs) proved reliable in detecting deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and are widely used worldwide. Although the 2010 version was recently modified, the 2005 version is still more exact and popular in the surgical population.

Role of risk perception and government regulation in reducing over-utilization of veterinary antibiotics: Evidence from hog farmers of China.

Antibiotic residues and resistance caused by farmers' overuse of veterinary antibiotics have severely damaged global food safety, the ecological environment, and public health. How to lessen the overutilization of antibiotics is of prime concern nowadays; however, the existing literature has paid little attention. So, to fill this gap, the current study explores the role of risk perception and government regulation in reducing the over-utilization of veterinary antibiotics by gathering data from 675 hog farmers in the Hebei, Henan, Hubei, and Shandong provinces of China.

Anodal high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation reduces heart rate and modulates heart-rate variability in healthy young people: A randomized cross-controlled trial.

Objective: To investigate whether anodal high-definition transcranial current stimulation (HD-tDCS) over the left dorsolateral pre-frontal cortex (DLPFC) could modulate the heart rate (HR) and heart-rate variability (HRV) in healthy young people.

Methods: Forty healthy young people were enrolled in this randomized crossover trial. The participants were randomized to receive anodal HD-tDCS (n = 20) or sham HD-tDCS ( = 20) over the left DLPFC with a washout period of 1 week.

Inhibition of S100A8/A9 ameliorates renal interstitial fibrosis in diabetic nephropathy.

Background: Renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) is one of the main features of diabetic nephropathy (DN), but the molecular mechanisms mediating RIF in DN has yet been fully understood. S100A8 and S100A9 are the proteins associated with immune and inflammation response. Here we reported the expression of S100A8 and S100A9 were significantly increased on tubular epithelial cells in diabetic kidneys through a proteomic analysis.

Methods: The study was guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and the Cochrane handbook for systematic reviews. PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, SinoMed, and Wan Fang Database were searched from inception to November 15, 2021.

Objective: Advance care planning has been practiced in Western countries for several years, but non-Western cultures face challenges in implementation. This study was dedicated to translating the instrument measure into Chinese, examining its psychometric qualities and exploring the relationships among knowledge, attitudes, and practicing behaviors in advance care planning among oncology nurses in China.

In recent years, several clinical trials have focused on oncolytic virus (OVs) combined with chemotherapy or immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in solid tumor patients, which showed encouraging effects. Exploration of bacterial community-induced polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons degradation and humus formation during co-composting of cow manure waste combined with contaminated soil.

To solve polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) pollution, composting was chosen as a remediation method. During composting, the dissipation of PAHs was carried out by resource utilization of organic solid waste and its degradation by bacteria. This study was conducted by co-composting with contaminated soil and cow manure.

Methods: At baseline (T ), we collected severity and interference of NIS (Head and Neck Patient Symptom Checklist), nutritional risk, and nutritional status. During (T ) and at the end of radiotherapy (T ), we re-evaluated NIS.

Factors that influence treatment decisions: A qualitative study of racially and ethnically diverse patients with low- and very-low risk prostate cancer.

Background: Factors that influence prostate cancer treatment decisions are complex, multifaceted, and personal, and may vary by race/ethnicity. Although research has been published to quantify factors involved in decision-making, these studies have been limited to primarily white, and to a lesser extent, Black patients, and quantitative studies are limited for discerning the cultural and contextual processes that shape decision-making.

Methods: We conducted 43 semi-structured interviews with a racially and ethnically diverse sample of patients diagnosed with low- and very-low risk prostate cancer who had undergone treatment for their prostate cancer.
