Article Synopsis
  • A new hierarchical microstructure was developed using graphitic-carbon-coated NiS nanoparticles on N-doped mesoporous carbon nanoflakes, leveraging a nickel-based micro-nano structure and polydopamine as a carbon source.
  • The composite shows excellent Na-ion storage capabilities, maintaining a reversible charge capacity of 372 mA h g at 5 A g over 250 cycles, and 316 mA h g at 20 A g for 2000 cycles.
  • The impressive performance is due to the microstructure that facilitates electrolyte accessibility, fast electron and Na ion transport, and alleviates strain from volume changes during cycling.

High frequency supercapacitors (HFSCs) are promising in alternating current line filtering and adaptable storage of high-frequency pulse electrical energy. Herein, we report a facile yet integrated-circuit-compatible fabrication of HFSC electrodes by combining chemical roughening of the sputtered metal (Au) films and in situ trace loading of a pseudocapacitive material (MnO). The developed electrode fabrication route is versatile for different substrates, and is described with the application paradigms of both on-chip (with Si/SiO substrate) and off-chip (without Si/SiO substrate, with Ti substrate as an example in this study) HFSCs.

Safety and health promotion at the community level involves special concerns and approaches. A community may develop into a safe community or healthy city depending on the focus of relevant promotion efforts. Neither area nor population size should be factors affecting an initial decision to start safe community or healthy city programs.

Background: Colonic diverticular bleeding can usually be managed with conservative treatment. However, in a selected group of patients under conditions of recurrent, persistent bleeding influencing quality of life or causing life-threatening shock, it should be managed with surgery. This is a retrospective study to clarify the risk factors relating to colectomy for colonic diverticular bleeding.

This study analyzed the spatio-temporal patterns of 4,587 (94% of the total) confirmed dengue cases in Kaohsiung and Fengshan Cities (a two-city area) that occurred in Taiwan from 2001 to 2003. The epidemic had two simultaneous distinct diffusion patterns. One was a contiguous pattern, mostly limited to 1 km from an initial cluster, reflecting that there was a rapid dispersal of infected Aedes aegypti and viremic persons.

High-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) using small tidal volumes and maintaining sufficient end-expiratory lung volume may be beneficial in the treatment of airleak. However, few published guidelines exist to advise clinicians on appropriate ventilator settings in this clinical scenario. The present experiment aimed to determine the effect of frequency, stroke volume (SV) and mean airway pressure (MAP) on airleak from an isolated lung model ventilated with a Humming V HFOV.

Conclusions: Our data confirm that fat injection (FI) is a safe, useful, thorough and experience-dependent procedure. It should be considered as a potential treatment protocol for patients with vocal fold atrophy (VFA) and sulcus vergeture (SVER). To increase the chances of excellent phonatory results for sulcus vocalis (SV) patients, our recommended surgical option is FI with fascia transplantation.

Fat injection and fascia transplantation alone have been used to treat patients with sulcus vocalis. No information is available on the effectiveness of these two procedures used in concert to treat sulcus vocalis. The objectives of this study were to conduct the two procedures together and report the long-term results.

Purpose: Although difficult laryngeal exposure (DLE) is a common problem encountered after procedures using a rigid laryngoscope, to date, no anticipatory physical indicators have been formally noted as reliable predictors of DLE. The purpose of this paper is to identify useful and reliable indicators by which to predict, with acceptable accuracy, the occurrence of DLE following rigid laryngoscopy.

Study Design: Fifty-six patients, each of whom had undergone a rigid laryngoscope procedure, were classified as belonging to either the DLE group (n = 19) or the control group (n = 37) for purposes of this prospective study.

While autogenous fat augmentation for glottic insufficiency has been used before, relatively little information is currently available on the effectiveness of fat injection in patients with nonparalytic glottic insufficiency resulting from problems such as various defects of vocal atrophy or sulcus vocalis. This paper compares retrospectively the efficiency of fat injection after surgery in patients with vocal atrophy (n = 16) and sulcus vocalis (n = 8). The perceptual acoustic and phonatory functions and videolaryngostroboscopic data were evaluated before and after fat augmentation in 24 patients.
